Woodcraft/Utility Knife Challenge

.
its always. A risk. Always. Heat treating your own knives is really unappreciated. Keep at it

Yep, that is so true. But I have always appreciated it when you heated my stuff whenever I got around to grinding

I just kills me when something is not perfectly the way I want it. :grumpy:

There is nothing like it. It is never over. Wait till your working with a 400 dollar piece of damascus. Lol. Pucker factor Man. Lol. Good to see u cookin. Giving them a soul

Cooking your own really brings a new meaning to giving my work blood sweat and tears.

Wow, how did I miss this? for joining the challenge. I vote for the flat into convex edge as well, but really, I like either (of course, as long as the convex isn't a fat appleseed). At 1/8", it should be a cutting machine.

Crappy deal on having to start over...I know I'd be pissed if I put that much time and effort into it....

This won't be the one I will be submitting because of the slight warp on the edge. The actual one is very similar to this and is currently sitting in the cryo tank.

Here is the final version of the Choil-less BT4 that will be submitted for the Bushcraft Challenge. 1/8" CPM-3V Full flat ground with a distal taper and thin geometry for serious cutting performance. I tried to push the edge geometry to the max to wring out the performance of 3V. And of course zero convex stupid sharp edge. Decided to give a little more girth to the handles for a bit more comfort during extended use. What do you guys think?

YES to the thicker scales!!!! 1/8" w/ zero convex and a nice hand filling handle... sounds great  I hope you get it back by the time we meet up at Mikes, I'd love to check that one out in person.

Do you think the tip is strong enough for drilling, with the distal taper you put on it? Got a spine shot?

I'm liking this one very much. Simple and effective.

The tip should be fine for drilling but not prying. The distal taper is very slight. Here is the spine shot.

I'll just make another one for you guys to play with if I don't get it back by then. The thicker handles will have an advantage for extended hard use but I personally still prefer the balance and feel of the regular handles like the previous Choil-less BT4 with the yellow liners.

Damn, Ban. I agree with BBT, it's looking perfect

I can see that. Yeah, I'd have to handle both to know which I ultimately prefer. I wasn't crazy about the RC4 when I first got one, but after using it a while, the relatively thin handle grew on me. It just works on that knife.

Looks good man, the 2-tone handles is a nice finishing touch. Excited for the challenge to start.

It already started. I was just late to the game ;) Looking forward to seeing all of the entries. It will be good to see other perspectives and interpretations from the various makers.

Im calling it right now. That knife is going to garner you the attention you deserve. Look out W&SS theres a new maker in town and hes gonna take over. :D:eek:
