For wooden Wednesday: these are the only ebony Northfield models produced by Great Eastern Cutlery so far.

Low production numbers on both models; 25 serialized and 11 unserialized 720110's and I believe 20 of the easy open 85's made in slipjoint and 25 liner locks, so technically there are three NF ebony models.

Gunstockjack

Both those knives are fantastic!! I always like the wharncilffe model and a one arm easy open jack...wow

Thanks Gev! I'd like to see GEC do more ebony covers on the Northfields, but African Blackwood would be pretty sweet as well. :)

I just remembered this one; GEC Northfield 79 Workhorse half whittler in African Blackwood.

I love it! More please, Bill!!! :)

ETA; I don't know if this would be considered a half whittler or sleeveboard or ?, as it has a single spring. It is a sweet pattern, though.

 Yes, more African Blackwood, please. Blackwood is the NEW Ebony! :D

As per a recent discussion (and no doubt others along the way!), I believe the "purist" conclusion would be that it is a sleeveboard, as "half whittler" is more of a modern term? Or more specifically, "half" pattern names aren't... traditional.

Not that many pattern descriptions weren't marketing ploys of their own back in the day, in one way or another.

Whatever it is, it's purty.

Missed a couple Barry :) Excluding any SFOs, I believe these complete the list of ebony Northfields GEC has made. Note that even GEC got confused on these as the #56 ebony was cut for the Tidioute hotdog shield instead of the Northfield cloud shield.

I have no idea what the wood is?..It looks like Beech but is harder...My favourite cleaver i used tonight.............FES

Nice pic and utensils, Fes. The grain of the wood looks like ash to me? Here ash is commonly used as a tool-handle material because it's tough.

No new picture, but it hasn't changed much :)

Right you are Trand! I did miss those. But the 89 is the only other that has NS bolsters and NF trim, so now I suppose I'll have to track one of those down.
(dang ;) ) I'm also likin' the 56 NF with the 'hot dog'. Unique!

I'm not fond of the double pull STLs....

My first wooden Wednesday submission: my brand new GEC 72 hoof pick. Do I have horses? No. Did I buy it just because it's different? Absolutely.
