Wooden Wednesday - Traditionals only please

I took these pics yesterday, but thought they'd be appropriate for Wooden Wednesday.:)

The Pileated woodpecker has been busy this week. On Sunday, this dead Hemlock tree only had a couple holes in it. Yesterday, it was ripped to shreds. This tree's over 18" in diameter. Edited to add: Pileated woodpeckers are very territorial, and this is most likely the work of one bird, or maybe a nesting pair.

And, a pic of the pile of wood chips at the base.

And, of course, a Buck 112.

I had a log butt in the back yard I used to throw knives into. One day I look out the dining room door and there is a Pileated Woodpacker going to town on that log butt. Stayed awhile, then left. Only time I have seen one of those birds in 35 1/2 years I have lived here. Big bird. John
