Woodlore Knife Alternatives

If it's a functional objection, the full-length tang on those "Morseth" blades is massive. Check out the "V" shape in the inch below the blade/tang junction that reduces sress. Given the length of the blade, it would be very hard to break that blade off.

Hi Thomas:

I agree with your assesment of the Morseth blade.

It is too long for me to use as a EDC. They are strong.

I've attached one of mine as an example.

I Temper:

I wrote to SWC about their blades. I would have liked to finish one. Preferably a 3" blade as an EDC.

The fella never responded.

Ah, to be independently wealthy like that.

So, I'll find another blade to buy.

Bummer, why dont you ask a maker from the US to make one for you, just the blade that is?

H Guys - bought an Alan Wood stainless bushcraft knife from him at the weekend at a show. RWL34 blade with ivory micarta scales and red liners. Tapered tang - real quality.:D

I got this little beauty in the mail today from www.ragweedforge.com should make a decent wood/bush-crafter.

i recently put a handle on a morseth blade from ragnar at ragweed forge
http://www.ragweedforge.com/BladeCatalog.html#b-blades,
it is a pretty stout blade, and sharp as well, i think you would have to work pretty hard to break this blade. , my knife work is certainly not a thing of beauty, but the handle is functional, and strong, i used leather antler and rose wood, with epoxy and a couple of stainless pins. i would have put a lanyard tube on the knife but copuld nto find any stainless steel tubing to go with the pins. this blade is sharp as you could want, and the design of the blade is something i marvel at, good skinner, good camp knife, and a good woodslore knife.

Alco, don't sell yourself short...you did a fine job on that handle.
Here is a spine shot of the Morseth blade that Alco linked to.
It's on the left, Stromeng Leuko middle and Brusletto Traditional on the right...

Thanks man, I hope Becker will come out with something along those lines. I think there's a demand for a higher end Becker.

there is a ray mears knife made by alan wood on ebay for £225 dated 16/11/06 same price as rays woodlore shop , but without the 20 month wait !!

See the thread: "Canranger's Magnum Bushcrafter"

An excellent alternative to the Woodlore, and if you contact Abe I would bet you would find that the price is very reasonable for a handmade knife.

Steve,

I had the same problem with him but apparently he travels a lot. When he got back he responded and I had my blade in about a week!
