Woods SAK?

My top choice would be the discontinued Vic Safari Trooper with its larger blade, stronger saw, and longer awl and corkscrew (great for undoing knots!) and a lanyard hole THROUGH the handle, not a dinky split ring.

I have a customized Farmer w/scissors that I dearly love, and is my EDC, but I have a Safari Trooper in my canoeing "ditch kit." I also have another that I'll occasionally carry when working in the woods around my house. The blade is a bit longer than the Farmer. The handle is a little bit longer and thicker than a Farmer, making it much more comfortable for extended use. The saw blade is about twice as thick as those on all current Vic SAKs. I once bent the saw blade on a Farmer. It was user error, but user error can happen easily if you're cold or hungry. I think the discontinued Safari Troopers are hard to beat as a woods knife—if you can find one.

Saw the Safari models mentioned, I totally agree that these are great outdoors models. I've got a few of them and one of my Safari Solo's is in my canoe kit. The scales on these models are excellent.

I second the rucksack. this tool is great, i havent found a task this guy couldnt handle. rugged, shaves tinder in no time, the saw is very efficent for its size, and it's light. if Ihad to choose a leatherman or a rucksack I would pick the ruck sack. more options. I have yet to use my pliers when i camp.
