Woods Trio or Combo?

This particular Fox River was given to me by Marty and Aggie Simon this past Summer. It is a gift I'll never part with and it is my go to knife for all things outdoors. Before using this one exclusively, I carried this one that I have owned for about 2 years now. It shows some serious patina and wear but thats character!

The non-logo version is my back up knife in case anything happens to the other. I don't see the backup needing much use though since I've yet to have a BRKT fail on me. Awesome knives.

my trio would be ASH1 CG
vic champ
MK2
those would cover about all off it for me
the dou would be
vic champ
ASH1 CG

Heheh-- I'll bet half the armies aren't as well equipped. I'm not big on axes because of weight, but I do have a 14" Fiskars.

For folders, I've been EDC'ing my modified RAT 1 there's always a Vic Classic on my keychain. For day hikes I like a Vic Trekker or Stayglow Fieldmaster. Thy SAK shall have a saw, so sayeth ME!

My fixed blade is my trusty Fallkniven F1 in kydex pants with a big fat firesteel.

For real CYA, I add a Kershaw/Bahco folding saw.

I do EDC a Leatherman Wave in my pack and I would carry that in place of one of the SAK's with no fear. Heck, I'll go anywhere with the Wave-- just don't get me lost or lose my pack.

Here's all my favorites, from left to right

Vic Stayglow Classic on lanyard with compass, LED flashlight, whistle, mirror, and firesteel.
Vic Stayglow Fieldmaster
Leatherman Wave
Vic One-hand Trekker
RAT 1 Folder, modified to drop point
Fallkniven F1 with sheath by Normark with Army size firesteel
Kershaw folding saw (same as Bahco Laplander)
Fiskars 14" axe
If I can't git 'er done with this kit, the tools ain't the problem.

Mine changes often, but at the moment its a GB SFA, OHT and the Grohmann boat knife.
The grohmann could change to my bushman bowie if it ever gets here, my F1, or a mora,
depending on where I am, the OHT could become my outrider or farmer as well.

The problem is I have so many knives but no chance to really use them and pick my favourites.

Anyone know a good source for the opinel saw?

Heres my trio:

Koster Bushcraft
Browning Model 679
Spyderco Paramilitary

Use to carry a RAT-3 D2 in place of the Koster. I'm still looking into getting a good folding saw and a medium hatchet but haven't had the money yet.

Here is one trio. Buck tree saw, KOA D2 Bush Camp, Old lite weight hatchet.

How do you like the Koster Bushcraft? How long was the wait?

Mine was from the mid tech run so it took a few months to get from when I signed up. I don't know how long the current customs are taking though.

But yea, I love it. Cuts great, stays sharp, and its comfortable in the hands.

the RC 3
TOPS American trailmaster
vic farmer
benchmade ritter grip in M2 with krein regrind.

I know that's 4 but that's what I am comfortable with. The TOPS and the Ritter grip will be going out for the first time this spring. They could get rotated back to the old stand by spyderco manix and Becker BK 7. The RC 3 is also going out for the first time but after several years of carrying RAT 3s I know it will hold up in the woods.

well that is easy as of now. i have my swiss tinker, i know it dont have a saw it was a present though. then there is my bm griptilian/kershaw storm depending on what im feeling. and finally my ranger shiv/ka-bar or both if im going out for long periods of time. i need to get a floding saw or hatchet though.

Tarmix one more question on the saw. What is the lenght and is it double cut? Light?

Length is just under 6 1/2". Very light weight. Fits nicely in my PSK with is a re-make of a WWII small medi kit.

Here is some good info I found on the web a while ago.

OPINEL No12 Folding Saw with BELT Sheath - Recommended to me by a Norwegian trapper friend. Opinel tools are renowned for their no nonsense ability and here Opinel have employed the same razor sharp technology in their saw. Designed to cut on the pull stroke the blade is under tension not compression as it cuts and can therefore use a thinner section blade and can used without the risk of blade slip and injury. Although the teeth have no set they are configured to perform rapid clog free cuts.

My hiking can take me through forest, farmland, villages and even small towns and I like to change combos, but the main thing is versatility & keeping down weight:

A Vic alox Farmer or Pioneer with a saw is a MUST

Marttiini Skinner puukko is very sharp, very good to use in the wet or cold and its sheath is unobtrusive.

Or a Bark River Classic Lite Hunter, again not heavy very ergonomic and even stylish.sheath is a downer though as it (like all BRKT sheathes) bruises and kills your ribs if you dare sit down.It often gets kept in the pack for this reason and this is a chore.

I like to take one small lockback reserved only for food use. A Fox&Hound in stag or a CASE Mini Copperlock Amber Bone.

Sometimes an axe is handy, but on my rambles through villages or towns a full size one is preposterous and too heavy (the great enemy on longer trips) A Fiskars mini hatchet can be tied to pack or belt and is a credible chopper or baton maker. Cheap but good in my experience.

Let's go!

For me it depends on the season. Winter camping an axe is a must. I also carry a large fixed blade for limbing, pole gathering and batoning. Also IMO, the best size for a standard fixed blade, 8 1/2" overall with a 4" blade. I always have some type of saw no matter what time of year. Milder weather I carry a large fixed blade, 4" fixed blade and my Charge.

I have the same problem! It's aggravating and it's a pain, yet I still buy more...

I'd really appreciate a nice review of that Bushman Bowie when you get it, I've been thinking about picking one of those up for a while now. I saw a good review of one elsewhere, but am always very interested in multiple opinions.

I've been waiting to see what your trio would look like for a while, those are some great looking users. How do you carry your multiple fixed blades? I usually like to keep a light saw in my pack, and a large knife + smaller fixed blade where I can get to them.
