On my day excursions I carry a few different things to snack on mostly Jerky and granola bars. My question is what do you guys carry to eat?

I hike a lot with my son these days. I always carry a couple of king size snickers, in addition to the granola/protein bars that are in my pack. We usually eat a snickers (as a reward) when we reach our destination.

Mostly beef jerky. Being a post-op Gastric Bypass patient I have to avoid the sugars otherwise I crash real easily. Beef jerky really seems to carry my system quite well. I have also made my own pemmican (using peanut butter instead of suet to appease the wife) and it worked really well.

I also try to find Gookinaid whenever I can if I'm going to be outside in the heat of summer much. It really is a great electrolyte replacement with very little sugar. Not as sweet tasting as well.

Looking forward to more idead from this thread.

I like peanut M&Ms and Snickers bars for snacks. Easy to carry and they last a while in my pack if they go unused. I have tried many of the energy bars and similar but always got turned off by the taste or textures. I like the familiar taste of the M&Ms and Snickers. Even brings back sanity on occassion on a bad day :)

Salami!

anything on sale at the .99 cent store ie Balance bars, Clif Bars, Jerky and of course banana chips!

Salami, sharp cheddar, and M&Ms. Best thing for light hiking in the woods. Cliff bars for real energy, but the others for something to chew on

Sometimes I'll bring an MRE (disassembled for easy packing) just for the hell of it because I have a bunch that were given to me. Otherwise, I like jerky, hard cheeses and crackers.

I always carry some power bars as they last long time just in case. But i realy dont eat anything untill i get home. For some reason most of the time im not hungry when hiking. Find it normal to spend all day walking with no food. If i do dicide to carry some food its mostly a bagel some good sausage, goat cheese and vegtables. Yea if you take food might as well be something good.

I like peanuts, snickers, jerky, protein bars, peanut butter crackers,of course granola bars, cheese and summer sausage.

For me, Jerkey is great! I love slim jims though cause they are a bit more moist and softer...But all kinds of salted nuts are good, and dried fruits...I have been researchign tons of wild edibles though, and eventually I can find food as well as bring it...It just seems like fun to be able to forage for a snack!

My gorp recipie (1 pack generic M&Ms, 1 pack pretzel goldfish, i can mixed nuts, i pack of craisins)

other than that some nature valley granola bars

Payday candy bars.

Without chocolate, they don't melt. Can even carry 'em in your pants pocket.

Peanuts for long term energy, the nougat for short term energy bursts.

.

Frito-Lay corn chips and bean-dip....apples....foil packets of white chunk tuna.... crackers.

And sometimes, Drambuie.

I will usually carry some sort of cracker. If I plan to be gone for a long time (mainly camping) I will bring a pack of skittles, my favorite candy, as it reminds me of society and is comforting esp when all alone in a tent in the dark.

For a snack, I like Quaker chocolate chip breakfast bars. For lunch, a ham and cheese sandwich and a bottle of Guinness extra stout.

my small leatherman a rws p5magnum and some hobby pellets and a pot.
