woodsloafing snack

I try to bring things that dont make you thirsty, or require a lot of water to eat.

Even chewing gum causes me to drink my water much faster. Sometimes its a consideration.

While going out for fun? Aside from my "oh $#!^ survival food, I like a stick of pepperoni, extra sharp cheddar (the kind that would rather break and crumble than slice) and a can of cashews.

can of sardines, small hunk of fresh bread and a lemon

salami or summer sausage, any cheese with flatbread.

another thing I like to take is smoked almonds. I have low blood sugar so I have to eat something pretty often. I also usually have some honey with me.

For trail food: beef jerky, gorp, the occasional Cliff bar. Not candy (outside of the M&M's in gorp). I like food that's easy to eat with little mess.

I usually take along summer sausage and sharp cheese. I also like to take along a brick of mincemeat--it's basically pure sugar, but it's tasty.

For a hard long day hike, I ususally have some dehydrated fruit, a couple of cliff bars, cheese, trail mix of some sort, maybe a P&J sandwich, nuts, and some protien bars. I try and stay away from anything with food additives....chemicals.

I often carry some sort of organic based electrolyte or all natural electrolyte like gu2o or somthing simular to replace and balence out my system after a hard hike.

I try and stay away form Jerky and sausages and most other food with perservatives or Nitrates...If I can find Organic or fresh Jerky I'm in cause I love it, and to lazy to make my own!:)

What's wrong with preservatives? You think you're gonna live forever or even longer eating organic? Show me the clinical proof. Don't buy into the silliness.

I think the food taste better and is better to avoid the stuff if you can.

No, I'm not going to live forever...but I'm just trying to put the odds on my favor!:)

I doubt you could tell the difference but if you say so. What makes you think this puts the odds in your favor?

Just like working out regular...every little bit helps to keep ya out of the hospital and off of pills in the future if you can help it. :D

Some foods you can't taste the difference, others you can. The sodium content is usually lower, as is the sugar content of some foods.

Well, I agree that the added sodium to so many products is ridiculous. Get a week's worth of sodium in one cuppa noodles.

my wife just brought home some chocolate covered sunflower seeds. These will be in my day hike pack come spring.
