Word of advice to sellers...

I'm another that that almost instantly hits back button. If a person can't take 5 minutes to take some decent pics and post them then I can find the same knife somewhere else.

This is a great point being brought up! It takes all of about 5 minutes to snap 3-5 pictures showing all aspects of the item(s) for sale and linking the pictures to the sales thread is not difficult (had not problems with Photobucket for the past 3 years). Plus, it saves time on back-and-forth conversations regarding simple descriptors and concerns about a knife (lockup, centering, marks on blade and/or handle)

If you take the time to compose a detailed sales thread (a few sentences or so) and add some pictures and some sales specifics (shipping method, payments accepted), I feel that your sale will be conducted quite effortlessly and smoothly. People are more hesitant to purchase something sight unseen. And, since we cannot actually handle the knives in the exchange easily, a picture would be the next best thing.

+1 to enforcing this, hopefully it's not too much of a headache.

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Kudos..................If you are not BF Website Literate----Get the HELP from a Moderator to teach you the RIGHT to post pictures..Its not very hard and when you get the hang of it.. Its a BREEEEEZE.....It TRULY is very beneficial to see pictures........Very well put and fantastic topic Sir.

Thanks for all the support on this thread you guys. I'm glad to see everyone agreeing upon this matter. I don't want to push the moderator's buttons here but perhaps we should make this one into a sticky for all the future sellers to see??

I hope all the picture-less sellers are reading this and changing their ways for the better.

start posting pictures of your items in your sale threads. None of that "email me for pics" crap!

I can't fathom how many times i have ignored a sales thread just because the seller does not know how to post pics in the thread and requests people to "email him for pics". I as a buyer do not want to waste my time nor yours in emailing you for pictures. I want to just click on the thread and have the pictures of your items right there in front of me. If i like it i'll buy it on the spot. If i don't then i didn't have to waste my time or yours in asking you to send me pictures.

Seriously people, learn how to post pictures in your sales threads. It's not hard to do and it will help you out big time, as opposed to just asking people to email you.
people should actually stop saying stuff like "it's new, and you know what these look like". Yes, i know what they should look like, but i need to see what the one you have for sale looks like.

AMEN!

To some extent the market will control the behavior. If people who don't post pics don't sell their knives, then perhaps they will learn. If people do buy their knives sight unseen, then their behavior won't change.

I occasionally benefit from people who post poor pictures of good knives, because I pick them up for a bargain due to other people passing them by. You just have to be careful to make sure that the poor pictures aren't intentional, to cover up flaws. I've only been impacted once by that, and the flaws were such that at the price I would have bought the knife anyway and was still happy with the purchase.

Get your finger away from the button.

Ultimately it is the Buyer who controls any transaction. If you don't like an ad, an offer, or whatever, don't buy.

Pics should be required, and good ones, not crap blurry dark cellphone pics.

If you can afford a smartphone that costs hundreds and hundreds of $'s, you can afford a cheap digital camera to photograph that XM/CR/STRDR that costs hundreds and hundreds of $'s.

Just my 2 pennies....

My opinion on this statement- I own a nice digital camera but I don't own a computer and I browse the web exclusively from my iphone over cell service (no wifi), I have the ability to host photos using only one hosting site (drop box, the ONLY hosting site that accepts uploads over 3G cell service) but obviously the only pic's my phone can upload is pics taken with said phone. Now I've learned to take decent phone pics which accurately depict the items condition, but compared to an actual camera yes they're pretty lackluster...

I agree 100% if there are no pics I just hit the back button .

In reference to rule #4... It does not clearly state that the photos must be in the thread, it just reads "provide clear bla bla bla photos" and they likely can, but not in the sales thread. I understand, but some people have a lower comprehension level. You REALLY have to spell it out for some, and I know the Mod's don't have time for that.

I, also, just hit the back button. I don't even look at the price. My thoughts are - if they can email me pics, they must have pics of what they are selling. Since you have to be gold or above to sell here, you also have the ability to post pics directly(no photobucket, imgur.... Necessary). I assume that they are trying to hide something or are so lazy that I wouldn't want to deal with them anyhow. Next.

Or they just don't realize how much most people appreciate clear information in a well-formulated ad. But I do agree with you, failing to provide specs, pics, and info on shipping and payment should be a deal-breaker. If they are so dismissive before the sale, how cooperative will they be when the item arrives and something's not right with it?

Should also add in that if you are posting a flashlight or lantern of some sort for sale don't only post night time pics lol atleast put in a picture of it in the day light. You shouldn't have to ask for day time pics. If you know how to post pics of your item in pitch black then you know how to do it with some lights as well.
