Work hardenability?

Ahh, this is the Vidos' website! Several members of that family live in my home province.

Got one of those peening anvils in my basement. Man, when you're trying to figure out the technique with nothing more than text and internet video to go by, it seems like the hardest blade-related task ever! :(

In Europe, there are contests for scythe blade peening (thinning the blade edge on those little anvils).
Peter Vido (from C.S.G's home province) learned how to peen the edges of scythe blades, then took first place at one of these contests (in Germany or Austria, I believe).
Peter also sharpens and work-hardens the edges of hoes by peening them instead of using a file.

THAT I did not know! I'd imagine that, as he said was the case with scythe blades, it also extends the lifespan of the implement by changing the shape of the edge, rather than always grinding it away.

Maybe this summer I can give peening another attempt.

Anyone up to trying peening a khukuri? It's much thicker than a scythe or hoe blade.

I think you'd have to have arms like Hephaestus to pull that off!
