Work in Progress

Comments? Well for starters, you own it and I don't so you suck, STeven!!:p;) But seriously, yet another example of why I have been ripping off.......I mean paying homage to Russ in my knivemaking lately :D Between him and Don, I guess we will have to start talking about the "Missouri School" now. Do I even need to bother guessing what kind of sheath it is going to end up with?

You would not be successful in guessing, Joe...just wait and see.;)

Ferrule is also file worked now....hojees, look at that wood pattern, would ya?

Whoah, that's the stuff!

Sorry, I don't have time to look at the wood--I'm lost in the damascus and trying to find my way out!!! :D

I like this one a lot. I've become a fan of 5"-7" fighters/Bowies and this fits the bill.

Whoever wanted a better look at the damascus pattern, your wish has been granted. Yowza - that is TIGHT! Great example of why the ladder pattern has always been my favourite.

Roger

I didn't comment about the previous picture because without the etch the damascus didn't look like anything special and the wood looked very ordinary!

It is certainly FAR from ordinary NOW! More like EXTRAORDINARY!

Peter

you're a lucky man, steven, that knife is a beauty! russ rocks!

best regards,
hans

I think you're shortly going to have another winning damascus fighter inbound.

The lines of Russ' Hawthorne work well from a 6" blade to a 10" blade, but I think if there is a sweet spot in that range, yours is it.

That is going to be one SWEET fighter!

I like the form of Russ's knives. No fan of damascus, (personally) but really like his style. And, as usual, It looks perfect. Everything he does appears "exact"- hits the nail on the head. Congratulations Steven.
David

*what is origin of the wood source- native where?

Jungles of Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia; the burl form especially on the Andaman group of islands.

The day after vomiting in his booth, I had the luxury of spending about an hour at Chuck Bybee's Alpha Knife Supply, where I purchased the Amboyna that you see, Red SheOak, and Red Mallee Burl, all stabilized, all blocks of some of the most fantastic wood I have ever seen.

Some interesting views on this knife... considering for ME, it's the lines and styling that MAKE this knife. Russ could have made the blade from 1084 and the handle from micarta and I would be in just as much awe due to the very pleasing aesthetics and balance of this knife.

The stand-out damascus and gorgeous wood are just icing on the proverbial cake. :)

I really like this knife. As mentioned earlier, the proportions are spot on. I like the guard, the blade shape and the damascus. The handle material is sweeeeet. I was shopping handle material at Blade, you beat me to this piece. Nice score!

Currently don't have one of Russ' knives in my collection. Will have to remedy that in 2009!!! Thanks for sharing the pics.
