World cup fans?

You sir have won the internet. Thanks for making me laugh this morning.

Did the US coach really say his "athletes" need to be better actors? He WANTS them to be floppers? What happened to playing the game. If you can't win a game playing it right, you are a loser.

I agree. I am a FAN of the sport, and it is getting hard to watch. they need to do something about it.

perhaps have a FIFA ref reviewing games and fining for flops. it's a start. i think the same should hold true with the refs. i've ref'd before, and i know it's tough, but there has been some truly terrible calls already. the old adage, "Don't call what you think you see. call what you see."

I agree. That was one of the main thing our coach use to yell at us about. Play till you hear the whistle. Don't throw your jars up or fall over begging for a call. Get up and get the ball back. It has gotten horrible now. They were talking about making a rule for flops but just never did it. It would be a hard call to make as a ref but after the first few I think the players would cut a lot of it out.

I like the fines for flop idea by a ref watching on tv. That could possibly work also.

The ref on tv idea is great. I don't think it would add too much time to the game and I think if they ejected the flopping player it would end very quickly.

i was watching the BRA-CRO opener at a brit fan's house. he played semi-pro over in England. he knows the game and loves it. but, on the dive that drew a PK, he said that they should review the tape after the game and give him a red card. that would make them think twice about flopping.

I was talking about a post-game review. i don't think it would work during the game. having the ref upstairs call down to the game ref? well, let me rephrase...i think it would be difficult. though, i suppose there is a few minutes of stoppage time anyway while the player is pretending to be dead or dying.

Reading you guys talk about flopping has me wondering if Karl Malone is coaching soccer nowadays.

In high school, and after; I played baseball, basketball, football, soccer, wrestled, and still do mma. It always bums me out to hear people rip on soccer not being a sport, and players not being athletes. After wrestling/mma, soccer took the most energy by far. Basketball takes less athleticism, and they play up the foul just as much, I never hear people ripping on basketball players not being athletes. Just sayin' having said all that, the flopping nowadays HAS gotten way out of hand.

Man France just beat the hell out of switzerland! 5-2 some very nice goals. France is looking pretty solid this year and that's hard for me to say as I hate them lol

Allez Les Bleus! <--- lol my girlfriend is French, needless to say she was happy with todays results (5-2)

France is looking really really good right now! I'm happy they are my second favorite.

USA!

Flopping - the only thing that frustrates me about the world cup. Its SO ridiculous.

I think your comparisons to Basketball is kinda isn't fair - basketball players don't writhe in "pain" on the floor unless they are actually hurt.

Soccer is a great game... its a great international game.. I miss playing pickup games in the park with all sorts of people i couldn't understand..

But when I watch the world cup, I am very frustrated by the obviously fake, girlie actions by the players.. from every nation - its like, JUST GET UP AND PLAY!

regardless - i have had a lot of fun watching the games this year!

GO USA - FRANCE - MEXICO

We always made fun of the "divers" as we called it, heck one of the best ones is now coaching the USA team! :)

there's not many sports I haven't tried, as a team sport, I prefer football (ahem, soccer), but hey, what's sport without mocking each other to death :p

besides, they play rugby with pads and a helmet these days, call it football, and talk about how tough they are. Oh, and bowling a sport here...and cheerleading...I don't feel so bad about it when I remember that.

Couldn't agree with you more about the flopping. I played way more than I ever watched the pros, and you just never saw that with us. I think if a basketball court was as comfortable and inviting as a patch of perfect grass, they'd roll around on it too ;).

I only payed in school and then in some Sunday leagues etc. It helps to cut on the nonsense when the ref wouldn't blow a whistle for a broken leg and going to the ground just makes you an easier target :)

You'd think the local channels would play this game at least! oh well, back to univision :)

boy, i thought we were terrible. the effort was there, but SO MANY GIVEAWAYS! unforced errors. it is their achilles heel. i realize that Germany is a good team, but man...it was driving me crazy. play simple.

with that said, glad i get to watch another USA-played game!
