Worst blade accidents?

I forgot about one.

I was at a party at a friend's house and my brother was there. A couple guys came up and one was running his mouth. About ten minutes later I look across the yard and see the trash talker sucker punch my brother in the face. And while my brother can hold his own, you just don't sucker punch my little brother. I was standing with my friend who's house and party it was and the next thing I remember, I'm on the ground on top of the guy giving him an etiquette lesson with an example of why sucker punching isn't nice. A bunch of people circled around and a few were trying to pull me off but I would grab the guy and hold on so they were having to lift both of us and would let go and I would proceed the lesson with repeated rights. Finally it was broke up though I wasn't done and was being held back by 3 friends.

Once he was gone my friend asked why I was bleeding. I had no idea because he never laid a hand on me and there were only used to try to block his head. After asking around someone saw a person with a knife and apparently they reached down and sliced my head from a little above my temple, back above the tip of my ear, creating about a 5" cut that was to the bone. It could have been a lot worse but at least he wasn't a stabber.

I went to ER and the Dr commented on how clean the cut was and then took a staple gun and put 5 staples in. Or I thought until he went "huh?" I asked what what was going on and he said the staples were ripping out and tearing thru the skin. So I said guess it's not a smooth cut now...how about some stitches which he did. I keep my hair cut short and it's very obvious right after it's cut.

A few years later my best friend found out who the kid was and who cut me in a random chat that turned to fights. He wouldn't tell me who for some reason.

I am glad this is not "Chainsawforum.com". Those guys must have an even more gruesome thread. I think the Walking Dead is easier to stomach.

Not a blade but might as well have been.
Helping my dad years ago demolish a house and I took the aluminum window screen off and layed it against the house and jumped out the lower story window.
Well, the edge of the screen caught the top of my right hand.
Stiches back then weren't what they are now..close together and all. I think he closed this with 8 or 9.
Cut across a vein. Wasn't pretty. Looks ok now :)

I had an accident with a wave opening knife, gave myself a nice inch long, inch deep laceration to my outer thigh where the pocket from my jeans sits. The blade went through the folded-over seam of my jeans too. How? I deployed it wrong, of course.

Weird thing about cuts like that, it doesn't bleed immediately. Took a few seconds to start and once it did, was like a faucet. It took several stitches to seal it up.

mini-griptilian twas the culprit, left thumb, six stitches. plus plenty of other minor-ish lacerations all over the place.

I'm a rubber necker as much as the next guy but I recall there was a line in a stickies somewhere about gory knife wounds in general, if it's all OK I have no problem but is it really family friendly where you'd want your 8 year old child seeing it. I know we have many members who spend time on BFC with their kids, some even younger than 8. In my opinion there is another area where these kind of pics are more acceptable and even expected. If I'm wrong leave me a visitor message and tell me why. I wouldn't report this thread because these pics have poped up before on occasion but I don't recall ever seeing a "Let's see your knife wound pic." in general before.

Seems what's allowed in all the areas of the forum are trying to be defined and I was just curious, does anyone remember if that was stickies rule somewhere? Maybe it was just forum specific to Traditional and that's where I saw it. Since I don't want to hijack the OPs thread please contact me by VM or Email if you have any info.

That aside, I've cut myself more times than I can remember. Two worst times were when at the age of 15, drunk and angry I tried to stab a telephone pole with an SAK, well it closed on my pointer finger and those darn Victorinox SAK blades are so thin and razor sharp it cut all the way to the bone, through ligaments nerves and blood vessels. Never did heal right, probably should have stayed at the er and let them finish it up.

Second one was when I was using my brand new Benchmade AFCK with my fresh edge on it at Music Fest in Bethlehem PA. I was cutting up a bloomin' onion to share with some friends and again alcohol was involved. Anyway there was no place to cut the onion so I held the Styrofoam bowl it was in my hand and sliced right through the onion, the Styrofoam bowl and my middle finger, straight down the length and on a diagonal. I'm just starting to get some feeling back in that one.

My 8 y.o. dissects frogs at school and knows how to skin a deer.
'Probably knows more cuss words than I did at his age too (through no fault of mine) :-)

worst for me was when i am still 15 years old i think. i try to cut a rope using a box cutter and it was a dull box cutter, and I was not smart/careful enough so when the rope finally get cut, the box cutter stab my left arm. lesson learned...

Nothing more dangerous than trying to cut anything with a dull blade. My teacher in wood shop saved my finger. I was pushing the board through the saw and as any teenager, I had my mind on something else. The worst I saw was with a collegue who did the same thing, but the saw took off his thumb. He of course passed out from the pain and said it was the most painful thing he had ever felt.

I also stay away from swords and axes. I like the wooden swords best for horseplaying.

Definitely have to be careful with power equipment. Even when being safe and following the rules they can still get you. A blade can explode or you can hit a hard spot that tries to buck or jerk the handle from your hand. My dad was cutting a piece of aluminum tubing with a table saw that had a metal blade installed. It grabbed the short piece and took a deep bite which got the pipe stuck on the blade and it then instantly made a full revolution and hit the end of my dad's thumb and essentially took it off. Not by cutting but more by pinching it off.

The bone was exposed and I then had to drive after a few deep breaths thinking of my happy place to get the tunnel vision to go away. The Dr was able to get most of it sewed back on and save enough of the nail bed to have a short nail. But it's definitely a little shorter now.

My mom is an artist and had a hand held belt sander mounted upside down to shape some wood. Her hand got pulled into it and she couldn't reach the switch and it sanded the meat away on about half her palm before pulling the cord out of the wall. It's amazing what 30 years will do because today you can hardly tell it happened except for the skin looking a bit different.

I was working on a job with a friend and it was in the 20s and had gloves on because I'm a Florida boy that doesn't do cold. I was drilling a bunch of holes in a bunch of aluminum plates and had the above story in my head. The location of the switch was inconvenient so I wrapped the cord around my foot and had it pulled tight knowing I shouldn't be wearing gloves. Even being careful the 3/4" bit grabbed the glove and I started pulling my hand back while yanking the cord at the same time and ended up with the drill press in the equivalent of a head lock to get better leverage to pull my hand away. I had a pretty bad bruise from the pulling and a little scrap but it could have been much worse with the sharp bit and the wide and deep flutes that could have filled with meat.

All this stuff almost makes you never want to leave the house or touch anything sharp. But luckily we heal and there are people with the stomach and knowledge to put us back together when we take ourselves apart.

As for the pictures, it's not hard to look away and it can show a kid that bad things can happen and to try to think before doing. Who knows, they may find it interesting and grow up to be a doctor. I don't like looking at them either but have no problem having them here. Maybe edit the title and add a graphic content warning?

There was a Thread in General Discussion called "WARNING: The Hall of meat, pics of..." which showed some of the forumite's worst accidents with blades, as well as more frequent nicks, small cuts and "blade kisses" from around the community,
Should not be hard to trace back.

As to the OP, I got this one love bite this last week.

You must have band-aids and medic kit nearby if you love knives...

This was the worst, I was cuttin' a piece of oak on a band saw without a push stick and the lights went out and I skipped while the band saw was still runnin'. Sawed right down the middle through the nail down to the first knuckle, cut right up alongside of the bone. They actually stitched the nail together too. I have periods where I lose all feeling in the tip, makes it so hard to pick my nose. ;) That was 13 year ago and I can still feel it when the weather change. :(

My wife had an accident recently with her brand new Kabar machete. She had to get 9 stitches. Sure hoping she's more careful with her brand new Glock!

Thank you! I sure do have an awesome wife! We just got married three weeks ago. She used the machete again today to hack at three pumpkins for fun. No injuries!

Threw a kukri at a tree 6 yards or so away, hit me right above the hip bone before I realized. I still don't understand how it bounced back like it did, one of those weird, rare physics things I guess. Didn't know it cut me til I reached down to pick up the knife, something felt off so I lifted my shirt and saw a nasty little cut, only about 1.5" long, but it was a puncture wound so I guess it was 1.5" wide LOL. Worst part was when the doc stuck her index finger into the wound to see if my abdomen was punctured. Throwing knives is dangerous! Throwing big knives is more dangerous :D

wow buddy i rekon thats a pretty good one! dont envy that a bit ole man ouch! :thumbdn:
