THIS IS A RARE LARGE VERSION OF THE EMERSON KARAMBIT. ITS CALL THE SUPER KARAMBIT. THIS KNIFE HAS BEEN CUSTOMIZED. IT HAS THE RING REMOVER THAT WAS FOR THE PINKY FINGER. THE KNIFE IS JUST WAS TOO EXPOSED WITH THE LARGE RING STIKING OUT OF YOUR POCKET. ITS ACTUALLY CONSIDERED A (BRASS KNUCKLY WEAPON) IN MANY STATES. KNOW IT SITS SUPER LOW IN THE POCKET. IT WAS DONE VERY CLEANLY. THE LOCK IS SUPER TIGHT WHEN IN THE LOCK POSITION. THE EDGE HAS NOT CUT ANYTHING. IT WAS ONLY CARRIED A FEW TIME AND HAS A FEW MINOR SCRATCHES ON THE CLIP AND HANDLE(SMALL). THIS IS A VERY TRICK KNIFE. I HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN THESE LARGE MODELS FOR SALE IN A WHILE. THE BLADE IS ABOUT 3 1/2 INCHES. THANKS

A picture of an unmodified Emerson kbit for reference:

Gotta love capslock'd item descriptions.

I don't see too many de-ringed karambits out there. When I first saw that listing, I was thinking, you gotta be kidding me. Though I wonder why he didn't go ahead and de-wave it. Or find something more EDC friendly.

Since when were Kbits considered knuckle weapons anyways?

Unlike other mods out there (grinding improvised waves into blades), removing the ring from an Emerson karambit really hampers its function.

Lol, the kbit is such a limited knife, sure you can EDC one but it really only does one thing very well and this guy just "modded" that away. Idiot, clearly knows nothing about the knife.

I love this topic! Lately I have not seen much posted lately though.

I love finding stuff for sale that is damaged because I can usually get it cheap and then mod it (hopefully into something useful and interesting).

Funny thing about selling stuff (not just knives)... often times "damaged" transforms into "modified" in the listing just before it hits the auction block. Most people just do not realize that even the very best modifications are only worth more to a VERY small few.

His next auction will probably be for a knife with a broken, re-sharpened blade about 2" long. He can advertise it as your favorite tactical knife "NOW IN GENTLEMAN'S SIZE" or "MODIFIED FOR LEGAL URBAN CARRY"

I find it hilarious when people buy a serrated knife and decide to grind away the 30% or so of the knife profile to get rid of the serrations.

No offense to Charlie Mike but some of his mod-ed knives were hideous!:D

My favorite (ugliest) was a Benchmade 630 Skirmish with the blade chopped down to just a bit of spine behind the edge, and a wave made from the hole. He didn't just grind out the wave, he removed a good 2/3 of the blade material.

I tried to get in on a passaround, but there weren't very many takers, and he backed out.

Hey, CM, if you're still interested in sending it around, let me know!

Daniel

I wouldn't say Charlie Mike's are the worst, because his mods do seem to have a function,
rather than taking away a function, unlike the knife in the OP.

But I do know what you are saying. The first time I saw CM's waved double-edged Spyderco Police I was like :eek:.
I mean it looks wicked, but I would not have the heart to do that:).

The worst mod I think I ever saw was to a Cold Steel Ti-Lite,
I think it was a 6 inch model (no pics, sorry).

The modder took off the top guard, because it bit into his thumb,
when using the knife.
But in doing so, completely eliminated to whole wave/snag opening feature.

To each his own I guess, but sometimes IMHO, if you mod a knife don't
expect it to have any resale value if you get tired of it.

I told Charlie Mike I was horrified when I first saw that "mod" but it works for him! :D

That's a simple modification. The top of the quillon bites the thumb when it's locked open. I took my dremmel and smoothed out the burr off the back tip that one's thumb rests against. It took 5 minutes tops.

You can't even tell it's been modded but now it's super comfy and waves perfectly since the part that's smoothed, doesn't have anything to do with the wave area. :)

I remember someone trying to regrind a ZT 0350 on ebay into a Wharncliffe a while ago. Wide recurve to Wharncliffe, that's a lot of work. The result wasn't even close to an actual Wharncliffe.

Needless to say, it would have been highly in their favor to send it to a professional.

His ears are going to start burning in a minute...;)

 Smart. Yeah the ti-lite has got a few nasty edges that bite. Had two,(one is in pieces now, I used it so much)
had to file down the burs on the locks on both because they were shredding my thumb!

^I've seen lots of people mention this about the ti-lite, although personally, I haven't had problems with it in the years I've had mine. I can see how it's an issue for people, but someone removing the entire quillion..that's surprising. The solution mentioned by csiv is best I think.

I've just never been a fan of rainbow annodized knives, same for when plain knives have been rainbow annodized at home.

I hope it's ok to post vids here. I didn't see a rule otherwise. Anyway, here is a couple of vids of the ti-lite mod I was talking about.
But I know I have seen pics too somewhere. Don't know if they were by the same person.

part 1, you have to go towards the end I think to see the mod.

I dunno. Cutting off that stupid ring is probably the most useful thing one could do to a karambit.

+100000000000000000000000000000000000000000. :D

As long as Charlie Mike is happy with them, that's what really counts... But, that Benchmade Skirmish mod was extremely disturbing.

+1:thumbup:

Honestly, I don't think there's anything you could do to an Emerson Karambit to make it less appealing - I'm sure they're good quality, but they corner the market on hideous imho. :p

I mean no offense to the owner of this knife. It is unique and I am sure has it's benefits, but I have to post this here:

^idk, its kina a prerunner to the sage2. Maybe the inspiration! lol:barf:

though i undertsand why the ring is there i almost have to agree with ya, i just couldnt deal with the ring sticking up outta the pocket while ya carry them, one reason i decided the k'bit just wasnt my cup of tea, if ya are gonna train/use the thing though, at least like its designed, ya do need the ring and it never entered my mind to remove it, i just sold the knife and got something else lol.

"i just sold the knife and got something else" is something imho a lotta mod'ers outta remember, too many try to take knife "X" and make it look like/function like knife "Z" which isnt always a good thing, i am suprised someone hasnt put a ring on a std knife, like a spyderco miliie or similar, trying to make it something it isnt, hopefully the next post isnt a pic of a mod'ed millie with a ring lol.
