Worst Shop Smell!

To me they smell like people buidling cheap bass boats:D

:D Are you from Cuba or something?:)

Ya'll are weak, Worst Shop smells are the burning electronics on your favorite Baldor KMG grinder motor after overheating and setting itself ablaze...worst all around smell ever... Tie between punctured whitetail stomach still steaming from being gutted, Whitetail hide after it was forgotten and has been soaking in potash water for 3 months to remove the hair, Hide was Blue  when we took it out. we used window ice scrapers to remove the hair. it just piled up like snow on a plow, did i mention this was in the middle of spring and it had already reached high eighties a few weeks in a row that year Oh yea and me after a 10 pack of White castles japaleno cheeze burgers.

I, too tend to favor the smell of micarta, but unfortunately (fortunately for my lungs), a better respirator has knocked out most of that smell.

Worst smell in the shop has got to be my boxers or socks after 4 hours in a insulated steel building without AC wearing long pants and welding bib with work boots in the summer.

I had some mammoth ivory that smelled like fresh dog crap when I worked it. A couple of years later it still smells so bad up close that it's kind of a conversation starter "Hey.....here's a piece of 15,000 year old mammoth ivory. Smell it!" Victim, "Blechhhh!!!!"

LOL.......no, but cheap polyester and vinylester resins that are used to build less expensive boats have a very different smell than the expensive West System epoxy.

I went back to visit my Dad a while back (he is turning 70 this year), and was grinding a tool bit for his lathe. The quench trough on his grinder was empty. There was an old gallon jug sitting on the floor under the grinder stand. I filled the quench trough, and commenced to grinding the bit. When I quenched, I got a really nasty smell, and assumed that there must have been something in the trough before I filled it. I continued to grind the bit. A minute, and several quenches later, my dad came over and asked what the smell was as he had noticed it from across the shop. I told him I thought something must have gotten into his jug of water under the grinder. He started laughing his butt off, and said "you mean my improvised urinal?". I will never pour unidentified liquids anywhere again lmao.

the worst smell i have is when a pile of neoprene and metal grindings start smoldering. its even worse if i have been sanding maple that mixes with the 2.

Sanding green cow horn, and burned feathers are the worst smell in my shop. Not to bad compared to the smells of tanning leather.

Grinding down Moose antler just plain stinks like rotting flesh. I don't work with it often, but when I have to, I do it when the weather is warm enough to open all the doors and windows, and leave the exhaust fan on long after, as it tends to linger forever.

When I'm at IG's shop-----HIM ---that stinky ass Portugee

It gets better after I eat Chili and drink a mess of Buds.:eek::eek::D
My cellar shop smells like BBBB Beaver has been living down there. I got a 1' of raw sewage in it after all the rain yesterday.:grumpy:

The first few times I let our new pup, Sam, into the shop I guess he didn't like the sound of my grinder, and he would leave a smelly landmine right behind me while I was grinding. He just did it with the grinder, like clockwork.

I think my all time worst smell was when I stuck a hot blade into a cardboard box of vermiculite ........ That had been used as a litter box. You think cat pee smells bad, try crystalized burning cat pee! A lot like CS gas...
Lesson learned: Annealing vermiculite, ashes etc now lives in a (covered) turkey roaster! Live and learn.:D

Sam, Why are you using USED cat litter?????!!!!

Worst smelling stuff I got is called "Stink juice"....used to patina copper.
Smells like a dozen hard boiled eggs you had ten years ago and just got around to farting out!

Totaly got a buddy of mine to smell it the other night!:D Oh man...the look on his face!

Maybe we are onto something with the stinky litter box. I wonder how well it could quench steel. Cat piss is strong stuff, maybe it could make strong blades?

My swamp cooler is at ground level and I think the cats use it for target practice..lol but I'd have to go with grinding antler but the worst ever was a piece of oak that I was rippin afew years back that smelled like burnin crap...really brought tears to my eyes! lol
