Worth it?

think its abit high for a used wilton but jeez... looks brand new
-they are dependable grinders as far as i know..

hard to find decent grinders in Canada... i'd probably scoop it

How come stuff like this never comes up in my area? It's been posted almost a month I'd offer him 800 see if he bites. Can't hurt.

The grinder is half the new price.

and no shipping costs for you - that is hundreds of $

I'd buy both if you could.

Looks like a nice set to me, if I had the cash and it was relatively close I would jump on it.
Chris

Tell him you will come get them both for $1900... You're lucky I haven't made the move to Mahone Bay yet.... I'd be all over that. The oven is a little steep.

It is Peter Wile and I just set up a weekend visit to see the equipment. He apparently has a bunch of thing to go.

If you could purchase the pair for under 2,000 it would be a decent buy. I believe the Wilton is a single position platen, which is a little restrictive but if it will work for you go for it.

Blue... if he has a decent anvil... I'm interested.... Seriously contact me.

... and buy a basic membership for Pete's sake(pun intended).

Fred(or anyone else) - Can these be fitted with a VFD?

Yes
I'd bet it has a single phase 1 HP motor on now

You need both a VFD and a 3 phase motor

It's as simple as hooking up 8 wires and bolting the motor off and on .

No - it tilts

Have a look at the photo of the left side.
Loosen the hex socket cap screw that clamps it on the top of the white arm.
The platen assembly pivots on the big pin

If you've seen the "Caffrey Platen" it is just an adaptation of the square wheel platen to the KMG toolbar

I see Rob at Canadian Knifemakers Supply has a Bee on for around $1600. They are a very good machine. Frank

I need a new - REAL - grinder. Badly!

Please give me your thoughts on this deal:

Get all over that stuff or I will call my uncles in the New Glasgow and Halifax areas and have them run over and buy it out from under you:p

you don't have to worry about that they have gone to Florida for the winter, but I will say that by the time I got my GIB built up it was more than that grinder:o

The BEE are good machines.. but one complaint I have with mine (2 HP Variable) is the way the platen locks, the handle gets in the way of your left hand as you're grinding one way.. The solution I'm told, is to grind freehand lower on the platen and it doesn't get in the way, but sometimes the work rest is nice. Otherwise very good machine, and looks very much like the Wilton, all enclosed etc. I'm still thinking about how to modify it, to give more room for my hands with the work rest on.

Unky - I spend a lot of time in New Glasgow. We have a farm there. Next time you're visiting and in the neighborhood..........

I think I'm going to buy the grinder, oven, and an etching machine he has available. He apparently is getting out of making full time and has a bunch of stuff available. I'm meeting him at his shop on Sunday.
