Worth it?

The BEE are good machines.. but one complaint I have with mine (2 HP Variable) is the way the platen locks, the handle gets in the way of your left hand as you're grinding one way.. The solution I'm told, is to grind freehand lower on the platen and it doesn't get in the way, but sometimes the work rest is nice. Otherwise very good machine, and looks very much like the Wilton, all enclosed etc. I'm still thinking about how to modify it, to give more room for my hands with the work rest on.

Ya I have the same handle, and I have it pivoted out of the way, but it still gets in the way with how I'm holding the knife (handle bar type grip). I was talking to Ed Caffrey a couple weeks ago and he had the same complaint with the BEE he used. I'm thinking if I ditch the handle and use a nut, it will be a little more annoying to adjust, but might be "out of the way". Anyway, not meaning to hijack this thread, just wanted to throw that out there for consideration if he's going to look at a BEE.

Unky - I spend a lot of time in New Glasgow. We have a farm there. Next time you're visiting and in the neighborhood..........

I think I'm going to buy the grinder, oven, and an etching machine he has available. He apparently is getting out of making full time and has a bunch of stuff available. I'm meeting him at his shop on Sunday.

Take plenty of pictures if he lets you

I haven't been down east in a good 15+ years The last time I made it down was for my grandmothers funeral. My fathers side of the family isn't from New Glasgow, they live on Shore Road in between Lower Barneys River and The Ponds. My uncles use to fish out of Lismore, but they have retired now. I was born and grew up here in Eastern Ontario, but going to that part of Nova Scotia always feels like going home
