Just got a sawyer in ebony! I have 4 others that are basically customs there darn near perfect! But this one has a rolled edge on the back spring and a gap. Witch i'm just surprised by sense my others are so nice. Its got perfect centering, walk and talk, no blade play but those two little flaws are bothering me? So what would you do? Shut up and use it? send it back? sell it off?

Personally, if it bothered me, I would contact them, explain the problems, show the pictures and ask for return authorization for workmanship warranty repair. Both flaws should be a fairly easy fix for an accomplished cutler.

You're kidding right? What you have there is perfectly acceptable. You may have been lucky with your other four and their near custom quality, but these are production knives we're talking about. It's unreasonable to demand perfection in knives at this price point.

For a hundred bucks? Darn right I would expect quality construction.

By no means am I expecting perfection. It's just weird that this one left the factory like this when many others did not.

That's kinda how I'm feeling. I have yet to see a charlow like this. I seen perfect seconds haha.

That is the kind of quality control I would expect from Bear and son. It needs to be made right, imho. A hundred is a lot of money in my book.

If the knife is for show and tell, contact the dealer you got it from and ask for a replacement. If it's to be a user, put it in your pocket and go to work.

That said; I agree with Christian. There's just too much whining about minor problems with production knives and those issues shown are minor.

It's going to be a user! And by no means am I some whining pissed off customer. I'm just wondering what people's opinions are that's all. I think I just had to high of expectations. Considering the quality of my others.

At the end of the day it's your decision, but since it bothered you enough to make a post about it, I think Codger's advice would be the best route. It was your $100 and you should be happy with the knife, anyone that thinks you are nit picking has to realize they are your nit's to pick, make yourself happy with the knife.

Either send it back to the dealer for a replacement, or send it to GEC. Their CS is top notch....the fixes your asking for are easy. If you don't, you will always feel your handling a flawed knife. I don't agree with the "deal with it" perspective. You paid good money for the knife. It's not a $500 custom....but on the other hand, it's not a $29 cheepo. You've spent your whole life without this knife.....sending it to GEC for a week or two isn't gonna kill you, and you'll have a knife to happily cherish the rest of your knife......that is until you purchase the next grail....and so on....and so on.

Let us know where you land.

you got a good point! I also made this post to see how these problems would bother others! And thanks to everyone for there prompt responses!

I am not that fussy, but I'd send that one back, for reasons already mentioned - It would bug me! Even as a user. Other flaws are easy to keep, but not that one.
I have replaced knives like that for my customers, and dealt with it myself so they can enjoy their knife . . . . .

Thanks for the response! I think I'll send them a email! Way to take the bullet for the customers!

I read the OP too quickly originally. I'd send the knife back because of the blade hitting the backspring. That's a non-starter. But the gap shown is a minor issue. A single gap does not indicate a lack of quality control.

It's not just a slight gap between a liner and the spring, it's uneven between the spring and both liners. That would get on my nerves I think. I don't blame you, send it back and they'll get it right for you. It'll be back in a couple weeks and then you'll have a knife you enjoy. I've never had any GEC like that. Not even close. That one slipped by the QC Department somehow. Must have been an early Monday morning for that one.
