Hey BF family. I have a hypothetical for you.

Once you make a purchase on the exchange for more than 150$ (or for any amount that is). What kinda turn around for shipping is expected or at least hoped for? Also what kind of communication from the seller is appreciated ? I'm just curious as I have traded and sold and brought numerous times here and have always tried my best to give the very best service and communication I could , even in situations where I sold a bad product I've never had a problem refunding money or if shipping was delayed given a partial refund or at very least kept buyer informed. I'm just wondering on some other blade junkies thoughts and opinions because for the first time since joining here I've had a horrible experience with someone with decent feedback. Thanks for all your words kind or not.

I have got to believe that five days is more than enough to get a knife in the mail after payment is received.

But time means little when there is great communication between the buyer and seller. Great communication is the key.....

Mods , if this is not the correct area of forum for this post please let me know as I do not mean to start any kind of commotion, I'm just curious on thoughts to see if I'm totally out of line in my thinking.

Thank you wolfman. I belive the same and I personally wouldn't mind if someone emailed me and said hey s$*t happened and I couldn't get it out but to ignore someone and then get totally offended when they call you on it is just immature.

My expectation would be for a friendly exchange. When the seller confirms receiving payment, they would promptly let me know when they would ship. When they ship, they let me know the tracking number. Upon receipt, I let them know that the item has arrived and thank them . I can usually tell quickly if there are any issues. I again thank them and tell them all is well, or let them know if there any issues. If the seller encounters circumstances that would delay any of the aforementioned steps, I would expect them to let me know promptly. That's how professionals build positive relationships and encourage trust.

Ship it next business day or tell the buyer otherwise. Always provide tracking and provide updates if any delays occur. That's pretty much it.

Thanks guys for confirming my thoughts . I just making sure that I wasn't alone in wanting to be treated as I do others when I sell a product here.

Good communication covers a lot of situations. We have people who post right in their sale thread that they ship only on certain days of the week because they are on the road on the job. Knowing this ahead of time improves everyone's planning.

Good communication. As far as shipping times seller should provide you with a estimated shipping date. Otherwise before money changes hands seller should disclose if there may be delays in shipping and if there's a reason.

This ^^^^

If I can possibly do it, I get the item sent out the same day payment is received. If time doesn't allow, it gets shipped the following day...
Communication is everything. If I am the seller, I always ask the buyer to let me know when it arrives, and that they are happy with it, when I send them the tracking number.

It's all about communication AFTER the sale....

Keeping in touch through the entire process, checking the tracking, updating the buyer, and finally, making sure that they are happy with their purchase.

There is no "format" that everyone can follow for every sale. Life happens sometimes...

As long as you communicate with the seller every step of the way, and honestly do the best you can to get him the knife he purchased as quickly as possible, you are doing this right.

What causes issues is a lack of communication, not whatever issue led someone to take more than one day to ship a knife..

I agree with CapitalizedLiving & Esav. That's how I do my shipping... next business day. And it doesn't matter what the selling price is. I always insure & track and the buyer/trader gets the tracking # as soon as I can get back from the PO. When you buy / sell / trade on a board like BF, you don't have anything but your reputation to recommend you. I think most of us try real hard to protect ours by giving good service.

I'll add my .02 and agreement: communication is the main thing. As someone who works 12hr swing shifts, I can appreciate that not everybody can get the post office while it is open, every single day. People have jobs, things come up, etc...

That said, I also understand that MOST people have smart phone, or at least access to the internet, more often than not, so I don't think it's unreasonably to expect a fairly quick turnaround on communication. Barring 5-8 hours for sleep anway...

Now, personally, I do generally try to ship either same day, or at the very least, within 24 hours, as I package and print all domestic labels myself, and can fairly easily make it to a post office or blue box as needed, or have the postman pick it up at my house. Concerning how quickly said packages get from A to B depends on what I'm shipping, how much its worth, etc...

Reading all theset Like minded thoughts on how we as a community approach sales and our good names makes me feel like I am correct in the way I'm thinking . Again BF family I thank you for putting in your two cents as it is a great help.

I have noticed over the last couple years, that once some buyers commit and send payment, the communication totally stops...

I guess as long as I have done everything I can on my end, to make the transaction a great one, that is up to them.

Everyone here is on point that the most important thing is communication.

Busy at work? Health issues? Family emergency? Any kind of issue at all? These can be addressed simply and quickly with good communication.

As a buyer, I will confirm the deal, send payment, and shoot the seller a note to let me know when the item is in the mail.

As a seller, I will confirm the deal, send payment information, and once received, let the buyer know when I expect to get the item in the mail and that tracking info will follow.

I try to give anyone at least 24 hours to respond to a message knowing that not everyone is glued to their computer or phone (which I respect quite a bit). On top of that, like wolfmann, I think three to five business days is a reasonable window to get the package sent.

I know Amazon and customer service chats make everyone want instant gratification and one-day shipping, but this is supposed to be a venue for hobbyists to buy/sell/trade. If everyone tried to be a little more understanding that s*** happens and getting to the post office during normal business hours can be a pain, we would avoid many of the non-issue GB&U complaint threads that pop up every so often.

But on top of anything I said, communication will always cure what ails you.

When I buy a knife, I like for the seller to:

- confirm receipt of payment
- let me know when & how knife will be shipped
- confirm shipping & provide tracking

I will then confirm upon receipt & let the seller know whether or not I'm satisfied with knives.

When I sell a knife, I take into account how I like to be treated as a buyer. I f*#king hate when sellers go silent after payment...when they don't even acknowledge receipt of payment. I also understand there are "life issues" for everyone, but if knife can't be shipped out when originally promised, PLEASE let me know. Why should I have have to ask to find out? Do you like being left in the dark when you're a buyer? I'll assume not.

If everything is good in a transaction, I'll ask for positive feedback & reciprocate.

COMMUNICATION is a ""KEY""
I go as far as sending updates of the progress of the blade
to the buyer..Follow thru and FULL BUYER Happiness is of the utmost
importance. 5 days with no way of taking 15 seconds to shoot a quick email
With email on phones.. That in my eyes is BS..
If it where me.. I would give them a day or so and get a MOD involved..
NO QUESTION.. No communication is simply not an excuse.
I do understand..accidents happen and LIFE stuff happens..BUT a short
concise..email or even a call or text is only appropriate..
I leave feedback for every transaction.. (WELL I am sure I have missed a few)
But I give..even though I have had MANY>>> not leave me any..No harm done.
COMMUNICATION is the key to any sale..Let alone a trade..
If they commit to ship at a time frame ..HOLD them accountable.
Going dark..Is never acceptable--NEVER--Not with technology today..
Best of luck buddy..

I always ship next business day. I also take a photo of the buyers address on the USPS label and that also confirms the tracking number.
