Would you buy knives if you weren't allowed to carry them?

What's the problem, aren't your jails/prisons pretty posh in Sweden? And aren't you able to opt for home-arrest?

I would own ONE reaaaaaallllllyyyyy nice, expensive knife.
That's it. Just one, that would last my whole life.

Your laws seem similar to Australian laws. Knife nuts over here haven't stopped buying knives.

ok, i gotta admit that i had been smitten by a couple of knivar which are nothing but safe queens.
but this hasn't deterred me from adding more delights to my royal hareem...

Yes because each one reflects a different aspect of design or regional influence to me. I'm ashamed to admit but I have some users but most of my collection is SQ.

To the original question. No. If i couldn't carry my pocket knives I'd probably only have a couple for use around the house.

There is no way I could willfully live in a place that had laws that ridiculously restrictive. If for some reason I had to for a period of time, I wouldn't make knife collecting a hobby, but I would have a couple blades that I would still carry despite whatever laws......concealed means concealed :)

If I was not allowed to carry the kind of EDC knives that I carry now, I would not buy nearly as many of them but I might buy a few to use at home.

I used to collect custom fixed blade hunting knives, with no intention of ever taking them hunting. This is not exactly the same thing but somewhat similar.

Sure. I would own fewer folders. I would still own knives. I use them at home at least as much as when out and about.

Willingly, not willfully. ;-)

The answer to your question is NO.
All my knives get used, and I wouldn't waste money on something I can't use. I would own one that I keep at home and take camping and that's all. Besides that I would move somewhere that isn't so strict if I really felt the need to carry a knife every day (which I do).

Good luck!

Yes, I would. I'd hate to be prohibited from carrying them with me, but I'd still want to have them so I could use them and play around with them at home. A large part of my attraction to knives (and guns and other mechanical objects) is just how they are made and how they work. I could still enjoy looking at them, handling them, and appreciating their mechanical and artistic qualities, as well as using them for various cutting tasks around the house, even if I couldn't carry them outside of my house, yard/garden, etc.

Hmm, you sure? It could technically be either, and we can assume from the response that he's rather willful. :D

I would still be collecting what I like and be working to change the laws I didn't like so that I could carry them. Probably be doing just that in 2015 to try to get some of the Texas laws changed. I'd like to get rid of the prohibition of carrying double edge blades and Bowies, and get a state-wide pre-emption bill passed.

So, would you still buy knives knowing that you are forbidden by law to bring it outside your home??

I can't make a judgment without resorting to some kind of political statement, which is against the rules. We do have cities here, in some cities like New York and Chicago, where carrying certain knives are illegal, and many of our states vary in the laws regarding types of legal knife "definitions" and blade-length. It can make it somewhat difficult to go on a long "driving vacation" here, passing through many states. Of course, in the past we have had to deal with similar circumstances concerning concealed carry of handguns for self-defense, but we are gradually overcoming many of those obstacles by sponsoring common-sense legislation. The National Rifle Association and certain of our knife-rights organizations are doing good things along these lines.

My choice of adverbs was entirely willful:victorious:

Full Definition of WILLFUL

1
: obstinately and often perversely self-willed <a stubborn and willful child>
2
: done deliberately : intentional <willful disobedience>
— will·ful·ly adverb
— will·ful·ness noun

I would probably stick to a SAK Classic when out and about; something that small and ubiquitous seems easy to justify as a personal grooming implement. Otherwise, I would probably only keep a Mora and SAK Huntsman around, for yard work and hiking/camping, and a MT in my toolbox. I have more knives than I will ever need, but they do get rotated...about as quickly as the Milky Way rotates, but I'll get through them all eventually. If I couldn't use them, period, I probably wouldn't own them.
