Would you buy knives if you weren't allowed to carry them?

I already own knives I'm not allowed to carry in regular use. A lot of these I can carry if I go hunting or camping, but I don't do either, I stay in the city where anything over 5.5 inches cannot be carried. And stuff like my Cold Steel Rajah 2, classic Ka-bar, Ontario Marine Raider, Buck 119, Condor Hudson Bay, etc are all over 5.5 inches.

Swede here too..
I have two small kids and I find myself constantly using
whatever knife I have with me. And I almost always have one.
I'm trying to get in to the police academy so maybe its stupid of me
to carry one. You guys would cry over the laws they are pushing for
here regarding firearms too..

Whereabouts are you SpyJ? Uppsala here..

Tjena! :)

My first thought was switch blade knives... I own a few but they are illegal to carry in my state. But to really answer your question, I would probably buy fewer knives if they were illegal to carry outside your home. I can't see myself not carrying a SAK regardless of the law, but that is a judgement I would have to make when it happens.

Since I don't know the laws in Sweden, how do they feel about carrying a firearm?

Well...you don't want to be caught carry a firearm here, unless your a cop/military/coast guard etc! Not allowed at all for a civilian to carry a firearm on your person, only exceptions are having your gun to/from the gun range, and your rifle to/from hunting. The guns cannot be loaded, and should not be carried on your person, so it's just transporting the gun to and from two places.
This I can more understand, but of course, If I were allowed to carry my gun, not only to the range, I probably would do it sometimes. But honestly it would feel a bit awkward :)

What's the problem, aren't your jails/prisons pretty posh in Sweden? And aren't you able to opt for home-arrest?

Haven't been inside a prison (yet) but what I hear it's not terrible living conditions...

Well, I don't know, but if that's the case, then I still would be limited to use my knife inside my home! :D

Another Swede here !

Yeaaah, alot of swedish laws is so lame.. I say we Should have more laws like USA, and the penalty for the crime. I mean,Just take a look at the child molesters penaltys................... Grrr.. :@
Well.. I Carry My edc anyways, sometimes i lay it In the car when im in the supermarket, but other than that i have it on me almost all the time.
Funny thing, me and a Buddy was on our way to Dreamhack last weekend, and just beacause i left My knife at his place, ge needed to cut a few things.. :P
I Carry a Fenix PD35 on me to, got it a week ago. And before that i had a few other flashlights. :)

Sorry for OT.

I don't think I will buy knives I cannot carry.
I am not the "collection" sort of guy.... If I cannot use it, I don't pay for it, that simple.

Where I live the regulation is very conservative when it comes to knives, you are not allowed to carry something that you are not supposed to use, and for sure not something too threatening.
Therefor I kept to <4" blades folders and try to keep them as discrete as possible.
And to be honest that is fine with me.

But I won't purchase some large folders, or fixed blades or axes...

First and foremost, knives are portable cutting tools. Take away the portable, and I'd probable only have kitchen knives and one in my tool box.

I`m taking my chance and break the law most of the time. I do however consider carefully what I carry, and since I`m into slipjoints and SAKs I feel safe there. I belive it`s my personal right and freedom to carry a knife as a tool and no draconic laws can stop me.
I'm with you on this one.

As the title says, would you buy knives the way you do now if you wouldn't be allowed to bring them outside your home, other than when going camping etc?

No. Knives for me are EDC tools. If I couldn't have them outside my home then I'd only own kitchen and utility knives.

Yep, those laws suck! But really...how often do you encounter a cop in person where he could actually see a knife, and thats if its showing? Every once in awhile i may pass one at the gas station. I dont think that I would let that keep me from my passon.

I would move from the dictatorship or communist controlled country so I could buy and carry knives as well as firearms. Yes I would buy as many knives like I do now.

Yes, of course. But willingly is the preferred word, there. Assuming that you mean what I think you mean. :p

"Allowed to carry?"

Allowed?

Screw that. Time to be an outlaw.

The public universities in Oregon, without any legal authority, don't allow permitted concealed carriers to carry their handguns on college property. Didn't stop me from carrying there even once over four years.

Personally if I could not carry them day-to-day, I would not buy folders. I wouldn't see the point. I would buy fixed blades.
