Only if I wasn't wearing pants, and even then I would rather wear a fixed blade.

:p  That's great. I use a similar system except I carry a Bowie knife held in my teeth so I can open boxes REALLY fast it's so cool ;). For real though I usually carry either a folding knife in my pocket or a fixed blade on my belt. As for carrying a folding knife open in a sheath??? Why folding in the first place!?!?! Each to their own I suppose.

It would have to be really lightweight almost unnoticeable and on a breakaway chain like used for dog tags also in the no jewelry camp for the most part

I usually carry a knife daily, and have for the last 20 years or so.
Those knives were usually clipped into my front side pocket, or waistband if there weren't any pockets.
And sometimes in a sheath attached to my radio harness while working.
Count me in on the side of never even considering carrying around my neck.
It would annoy the hell out of me...

I swear I'm only partly joking. Relaxing at home is often pants off time. But I found I would often still run across small, mundane tasks that required a knife. So now I have a CRKT Minimalist as my dedicated pantsless knife. ;)

"Would you carry a folding knife as a 'neck knife'? If so, open or closed?"

I sometimes do. I have a Spyderco Tenacious that I have a kydex neck sheath for. The clip has to be oriented in the tip-down configuration, and I carry it closed. Pretty handy way to have it available when needed - BUT - it is considered a concealed weapon around here if it's not worn on the outside of your clothes.

CRKT has the "BioTac" lanyard system - it's interesting, but not really something I have a use for.

I could see a tiny neck carry sheath for an Opinel #6. The knife only weighs about an ounce, but it is a little bulky in the pocket. For yard work, it would be great. For bicycling, a little Opinel #5 would be super in a neck sheath. Both would have to be closed.
