I have a unique opportunity for someone. Recently I was inducted into The Montana Circle of American Masters. This has opened up an opportunity for me to take on an "apprentice" for 5 days. The Montana Arts Council is willing to pay my daily teaching rate, and in exchange, I will teach someone for a total of 5 days.

OK, here's the catch. The individual MUST LIVE IN MONTANA/be a resident of the state. The individual must also provide their own transportation, lodging, and meals. There is also a deadline for the funding, which must be allocated no later than 15 July 2009.

OK, now that the "catches" have been reveled, the teaching can be on whatever the individual wants (of course it must relate to Bladesmithing/Knifemaking)

Because of my schedule, the soonest I could do a 5 day class is 15 June of this year, but we only have until 15 July to complete it.

If your interested, and meet the qualifications, please send me an email ASAP. If I don't know you, please include a little background on yourself and your knifemaking, or your desire to make knives.....that way I can make an intelligent selection.

I don't know all of the requirements for the individual AFTER we complete the training/class, but I suspect it might be something to the tune of writing up your experience for the Montana Arts council, and sending it in to them. Once I get all the information I'll let anyone who emails me know.

Ready....set....GO! :)

Man, only a few states off! Okay, a lot of states.... What a great opportunity!

How about if I move into your backyard? Would that count for the residency requirement? :D

Isn't Kentucky in Montana? Let's see (big)blue skies and blue grass, mountains, pretty women, wide open spaces, hill billys, horses. Yep, I qualify, I'm in!:D:rolleyes:

Wow! If only San Diego was in Montana! I'm sure there is some lucky stiff out there. Congratulations to whoever you are! ;)

I don't suppose we could convince them to extend the invitations boundaries a little (i.e. a LOT) in the name of International Goodwill or something along those lines could we ? :D

Damn. Thought not. :o

What a wonderful offer Ed . I'm going to follow this thread to see what person is wise enough and lucky enough to take you up on this offer .
Bob and Pat Crowder are friends of mine . They will let me use the shop address . Then I could spend time with 2 greats .

What a great opportunity for someone! Very good of you, Ed.
If you can make an acception for a Texan I can bring you a
free rattlesnake!:D:D

How much land in Montana do I need to own to be a resident? :D

What a great deal for somebody! I'm jealous as all get out!

Does the fact that my cousin used to live in Montana with his friends for a while count for anything? I think his grandma lives in Montana too. Does that count for me? :D

Dang.... I could actually do this cept for the fact that I don't live in Montana. Ummmmm aren't there enough smiths in Montana? :(

Lucky individual to get this great gift.

Wow. Very cool. I've been wanting to scratch the knifemaking itch for a few months now and would love to do something like this. I couldn't miss work though. :( Congrats to whoever is able to do it.

Ed, would I like to study under you for few days? Does a bear poop in the woods?!? Great gravy on a greasy biscuit, someone is REALLY going to benefit from this opportunity.

If there's some way a Wisconsin boy can cheat and get in on this, let me know! Otherwise, you Montana boys better jump like a shocked frog at the chance :) Tell your boss/wife you got a sick granny you have to tend to, and hitch-hike there. I would, you betcher XXX. :D Does the phrase "once in a lifetime" ring a bell?!?

Darn! You know, we'd have a whole lot more in common if they'd drawn the border north/south instead of east west. Alberta has a whole lot more in common with Montana - than it does with Ontario. ;)

Good on you for passing on the craft!

Rob!

Do the 5 days have to be consecutive? Or could they be done over a series of weekends, or some such???

Looks like Montana could swell its ranks with the number of us that are ready to move there to pound steel with you Ed!
