Would you use a harsey folder or safequeen it?

Hey everyone first time here asking any questions so any help would be greatly appreciated! So I've been a folding knife collector for around 3 years now amd until now my collection has consisted mainly of civivi level with some higher end spidercos and benchmades sprinkled in with some twosun and kansept but recently I made the jump from $200 to $600 and after a great deal of coslnsideration I chose a spartan harsey folder special edition in the Sparta babe configuration. I was looking at some sabenzas when I saw the spartan and to me it was perfect. The simplicity and quality of a sabenza with more of a tactical look and tge artworks is flawless and beautiful. I've always been of the mind that if I buy something especially this expensive that I should damn well use it. My issue is that I'm super worried that I may eventually drop it in concrete or tile or blacktop even and scratch her. I don't want her to be a safe queen but I super worried that if I carry her she will loose a tin of value eventually. I've spoke with sabenza owners asking how they justify using such an expensive knife and I've been told that the reason they can be used amd hard is because crk will refinish your handle if you send it in for a nominal fee so basically they have a lifetime insurance policy on there knives as long as they don't intentionally abuse them. Does anyone know if spartan blades offers the same warranty? I've read over it but It mentions nothing about handle refinishing. I would really love to carry this blade so knowing that if I ever had a drop that scratched it up I could get it repaired would make me a bunch less worried about carrying it! Thanks for any info anyone may have!

Welcome to the forum.

Knives in general, are a terrible investment. While the secondary market is stupid-crazy sometimes regarding some makers or models, I don't buy knives with the expectation that I will be able to retire early as a result.

You need to decide what works for you. For me, ANY knife (regardless of model or maker) is a tool to be used and appreciated for its functionality.

Marks and scars earned through honest use (not abuse) add character and appeal, IMO.

I would use it. The potential appreciation on a Spartan knife is minimal, probably less than a CRK. Enjoy it and let every scratch and scuff clearly identify it as yours.

Would you actually ever sell it for the value to be of concern? If flipping knives for money is the goal there are much better options. You obviously chose this one because you personally liked it. I say use it. And if you want to go hard on it, get a backup or a plain one for a beater.

Life is short. If you have quality stuff that's made to be used, and you bought it to use it, might as well use it.

What would give you the most satisfaction, carrying it and using it, or having it just sit around?

But only you can decide what's right for you.

Welcome to Bladeforums.

If you bought it to resell it in 2 decades leave it in the safe. If you plan to keep it then use it. If you plan to use it than every scratch is your story. In my book I would proudly carry and use it. What you have to consider is who you let handle or use it.

Edit to add if you are spending $600 to invest buy gold

I would use it like I stole it.

I know how you feel, I recently bought a SHF with the watchworks engraving and anodizing. I haven't used it yet to be honest, I'm not sure if I will at the moment. It's the anodizing that makes us feel like this I think. I carry a couple different Sebenzas regularly and don't have that feeling from them, but like you said, you can always get them refinished. Plus they're just sand blasted Ti, which actually looks better with scratches.

I'd be extremely surprised if Spartan would re-anodize your knife for free, that's asking a lot of a company. I do know that they do a little bit of customization for their customers, so you may be able to pay them to re-do it. I'd love to carry mine all the time and give her a patina but I have so many other knives that I already carry and that are already scratched up that it just feels nice to keep her super pretty for the time being. Ya never know when I'll change my mind though because they are amazing knives.

This was the reason I stopped throwing more money at individual knives, and I get nervous somewhere below $200.

If it bothers you that much, sell it, and get something you can carry and enjoy. Knives are meant to be used.

I own about 26 knives. I use some others are just part of my collection. Which I do not intend to use.

On the other side I own 6 custom Bows (bow and arrow) I use them all. They where built to my specs (draw length and weight).
