Would you use a harsey folder or safequeen it?

Like others have said, investing in knives makes no sense from a financial standpoint. Furthermore, even if the knife doubles or triples in value it will probably seem like a trivial amount of money in 20 years. In other words, your financial position in life will likely be significantly different in 20 years no matter what age you are now.

But, on the other hand, it's your knife, do what you want. I have plenty of safe queens, I just don't see them as investments.

Coming back to this, I should specify that I own one SHF, a green Plague Doctor in boomerang Nichols stainless damascus. It is a safe queen. I do not expect it to appreciate noticeably in value, especially because Spartan has been making them for several years now rather than limiting it to a single year of production. It's a safe queen because it's a COVID-19 souvenir, not because it's an investment, though. I don't abundantly love the design, and I think it has too many sharp edges in inappropriate spots, but it sure is pretty.

Maybe I'm an outlier here but I was not at all impressed with my SHF, I had the full size green plague doctor variant. The etching was gorgeous, but I found the fit and finish of the knife to be sub-par. Grind was wonky, tip was borderline rounded off, the lock bar cutout/gap was enormous, the clip had a cheap stamped feel, action was pretty tight and never loosened up with use, some of the corners were poorly finished and could really gouge skin, particularly the top edge of the lock bar where I needed to press to disengage.

All that said, I have no safe queens, but this one definitely didn't warrant that sort of treatment!

I’m not a collector in the sense of preserving knives..or other things.
But there’s a condition, of just owning something, for some people, that is enough.
It’s got nothing to do (for me) with value, or pristine condition. At some point though, that inadvertently enters into it…You’ve got a what!!?
Not an easy explanation, because there is on motive to point to for ownership. Just ownership.
There are as many ways to enjoy things, as there are things.
Now, if someone would explain to me what I just said.

Same thoughts, but it's so pretty I still keep it as a souvenir.

I wanted to buy a plague doctor, multiple times. But every time I saw the lack of a sharpening choil, I hesitated. I wonder how people sharpen that portion of the edge without resulting in a recurve and/or much wider bevel.

I'm not familiar with the secondary market of SHF but I agree with several others that knives are not goof investment. I took a look at the knives that I have sold, most of them I sold for a loss of $$, with ZTs lost their value the most (30%+ loss of $) followed by Benchmade.

I had that same concern, you’d definitely want to take your time with sharpening this one!

I’d use it.

I think knives share some similarities with cars. I love using both much more than admiring them.

I read a quote once about cars that I think applies here. To paraphrase: “Keeping your sports car in the garage to keep up its value instead of driving it is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she’ll be better for the next guy”. ;)
Best analogy of the year!

My reply with these type of threads is that if you really wanted to use it you would not have been posting this thread asking people to tell/push/encourage you to use it.

Obviously you are currently not happy or comfortable using it and as it is your money and knife you need to go with what you really feel like doing.

I'd use it but not abuse it. As the old saying goes: “A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
