Would you use an expensive limited edition Sebenza? Or would you just keep it as a collectors item? I have a beautiful knife that was pretty dang expensive but what's the point of having a knife that just sits in a drawer and looks pretty?

I would not beat the hell out of it but say your going to meet up with a bunch of your knife buddies, no reason it can't be your EDC for the day. Just carry it the days you don't anticipate extreme use. Then again that is pretty hard to predict

Use it!:)
Limited edition, discontinued, custom, it doesn't matter.
They're made to be used (other than certain "art knives" that is).

My two main edc knives right now are a large Seagrass Sebenza and a Strider SmF ltd TNK edition with S110V steel.

Waste of money if they sit in a safe - they were designed to be used.

Carry them and enjoy them. Life is too short to have a safe full of expensive toys.

Yes I do. I recently got a Benchmade 710BK in M390 and its limited 180 of 250. Really like it, it was made to use and I bought it to use it. I'm a little bit more careful with it just because it is limited edition but I don't have a problem with giving it a good workout :)

Simple answers: Yes, use the hell out of it.

That being said, if I have multiple versions of the same knife I'd be tempted to leave the 'nice' one in the safe a bit. I bought a custom Busse SJ TAC LE at a ganza a few years back. It's sweet, and next time I deploy I'll take it along with me. But I haven't used it yet hiking around the woods. I have a multiple other Busses, Ferhmans, CRKs, and others which are the same basic size. I don't have anything against using the SJ, but for now it's sitting in the safe.
Folders are slightly different because it's easier to pull them out and EDC them. All of my folders get EDC'd, but I only have one verison of each. If I had multiple sebbies the nice ones might sit in the safe a bit.

ive gone very quickly from a collector to a user, and crazy about getting a mirror edge on my users :D

What I've found is this, you can't know what a knife is or is not capable of until you use it. The worst time to find out it's not up to hard use is when your depending on it. I own numerous knives that I bought on someone else's recommendation, or because I liked its look, only to find out it wasn't up to the task at hand. My vote is use it.

I'd feel a tad guilty if I ordered a knife and it just-so-happened to arrive a numbered piece and was available otherwise. I don't go for stuff like that but there are those who do, so I'd feel as though I should offer to trade it to someone who would appreciate it--numbered for un-numbered. Something like a sprint run is limited anyway, so if you like it, buy it, and certainly use it! At the end of the day, nothing new is new forever, so go ahead and enjoy it!

Nope, no way. Don't use it.

Someone had to say it... :D

Nah, just foolin! Limited edition knives rarely appreciate much, because everyone is thinking the same thing- "If I don't use this, in 20 years it should be worth a small fortune!", so they all sit there, and when inflation is factored in, you just stored the knife for 20 years, and there's no real appreciation. In the case of Sebbys, every other knife is a "limited edition". Just MHO.

If not too terribly expensive, yes I use it. But if that terribly expensive I probably wouldn't buy it anyway. But the one collectible/limited edition I have is a BM Griptilian 551 with black blade and gray handles, #58 of 100. It's been used, not hard, it's been sharpened and the finish has some wear, but I bought it to use it.

In MHO, if you pocket the knife, scratch the clip, or cut Anything that takes a hint of the edge off, it's a used knife. If you want to make money, knives are a terrible investment strategy.

I have a recently purchased Szabofly. I love this knife, but there really isn't any reason to use it. It looks great, feels good, but it is just to dang pretty to use for utility tasks. That, and the blade shape is really only suited to SD. This, and my BM42 are the only knives I have that I don't really use. The 42 because butterflies scare people real easy.

I use my zt 551 for my main carry folder. When I am carrying a knife, it is probably for hard use, and I don't take it easy on it. The only caveat is that I realize that I might not take it abroad where I might be scared of it getting "lost" in baggage ... just because I love the design and I don't want to lose it.
