I was out with some of my freinds after my work. I work in a jewelery store so I was wearing a shirt and tie. I was also wearing my Blackjack bowie. It's not very big(5.5 inch blade) so it is usually very easy to conceal it under my coat. Anyway, we go to a restraunt and all is ok. I get up to go get a drink and some lady stops me and asks me to take off my knife and put it in my car. She had caught a glimpse of it when I walked by. I very politley told I won't do it but that if is bohering her kids I would cover it up with my shirt. She seemed content with that and even said thank you and sat back down. Well 10 minutes later a police officer steps in and has step outside. He asks me to show him the knife and after seeing it says that there is nothing wrong with it. After this the manager comes out and explains that this lady was trying to have me thrown out. The manager said she didnt because " They were being polite paying customers and sice they werent causing any trouble, I didnt feel it was enough reason to throw them out."
So being kinda ticked I finished my food and got up to leave just in time to see this lady yelling at the officer because he didnt arrest me. This lady was not content with embarassing me, she wanted to see me thrown on the hood of his car with cuffs on. I know everyone has probably had an incident with people like this but this was uncalled for, she gave me no warning even. Anybody had anything like this or an opinion on it?

I'd give you my opinion, but I don't think the censoring feature in the forum software would let me print it.

Disgusting. Unfortunately, we see more and more of this out-of-control "political correctness". I don't know where it will all end.:grumpy: At least you did not run into any legal issues with the law enforcement people, who had, it seems, quite a bit more common sense than that idiot woman.

You should have asked her if she feared for her life? And then told her that the most common type of knife used in a domestic dispute is a kitchen knife. The problem with common sense is that it isn't!

No, that wouldn't tick me off ... I'd be pretty pleased to see that lady get shut down by the police officer and manager like that. :D

Don't know that I'd have the same experience, where I live, with how I look, though.

Just had to post the obvious stupidity of the lady. If she truly felt threatened, then it would be obsurdly dangerous to confront the stranger with the knife. If she wasn't threatened, then what the ____ was the problem? Her obvious sole desire was to cause a problem, and for that the manager should have thrown HER out of the place.

Amazing...

So, did she call the police, or did she have the manager call the police? Either way, that really sucked.

It was the lady who called the police. I felt sorry for the officer, had to stand around while she chewed him out.
I would have talked to her but I was mad enough that I may have said something stupid and she would accuse me of "harassing" her so I just let it by and left.

1. What are the knife laws regarding carry in public in your state? Wouldn't a tac folder or something comparably-sized have sufficed?

2. Carry laws are superceded by private establishment rules and regs, at least in the context of concert halls, etc.

3. If she saw the bowie in the first place, not only was it not concealed, but it was sloppy.

4. Public perceptions what they are in this day and age, and if she had her kids with her especially, other than her acting like a jackass with the officer, can you really blame her for her initial reaction?

After all, Indiana ain't the Wild Wild West ya know. Not necessarily my opinion, just givin' ya a flip-side-of-coin perspective. :)

Professor.

To answer that, I was only concealing it under a coat, My shirt was tucked in.
Strange, the officer said the same thing about the wild west thing. Maybe it isnt but I still hold the legal right to carry it. The only thing that you can't carry here are swithes and ninja stars, and I think bali's in Marion County. I understand your points and I'm not attacking your views.

You're lucky the officer didn't consider your bowie concealed since you stated that you untucked your shirt to cover it up. I would think a concealed fixed blade would be a no-no just about anywhere. I do agree that the woman was just trying to be a pain in the arse though....

Yah it is weird,to my knowledge there is no concealed weapon laws concerning knives.

Maybe he wasn't carrying it for self defense. Maybe it was because it was his favorite knife, it was obviously legal or the police wouldn't have let him off. Why should we have to limit ourselves to easily concealed tactical folders?
It was a private establishment, which is why the manager had the choice to let him stay or send him packing and she chose to let him stay. Other customers have no say in the rules of the establishment.

I carry a 4" fixed blade pretty often. Openly, shirt tucked in, knife on my belt. Hows that for sloppy concealment.

Yep, I blame her for her initial reaction an I wasn't even there :D People try way to hard to be scared or offended by other people these days. It sounds like he had done nothing more than mind his own business and try to get a drink.

Kyui, your self-restraint is admirable.
Thanks

I almost feel kind of dumb for leaving, seemed like I ran away or something.

What a stupid woman!

Thank goodness that the manager and cop had some some sense!

I'd tell you what I think you should have done, but any of them would have gotten you arrested! heh
