Wow, a folding Kukri

shecky - just checked out the Demko/CS patent...it's on the knife, not the blade-opening mechanism.

Anybody more knowledgable than me on patents...feel free to jump in to explain.

:D

Dan

My reading of the patent clearly emphasizes the "self opening" aspect of the knife in which the blade is opened by engaging the user's pocket. Then again, I'm not a patent lawyer.

The original point of bringing it up being that it's hard to claim "rip off" when a specific aspect of a design is patented by the entity doing the "rip off".

As far as "ripping off" the overall shape or design... rip off of whom? It's a folding kukri. Maybe some guy in Nepal is claiming intellectual rights over that shape. Maybe he can claim to have invented the wheel, too.

I've made far too many "anti-friends" on this fine forum with my POV on Cold Steel so I'll hold my personal feelings on the company in and just say that this time I think that it's a pretty cool design.

I can't see this particular knife as a rip-off, seem fairly original.

I don't really like recurve blades for off the beaten path carry. I find it hard to sharpen them with the sharpening tools I like to carry in the woods.

I also don't really care for folders that large, I'd rather just carry a fixed blade.

I recently aquired one...a price I couldn't pass up. I love large folders and figured what the heck. Anyways, if I get a chance to do more than cut paper, I'll get some action shots. I won't go down the CS-bashing road either...I don't care for their marketing and the preceived lack of integrity, but this is a pretty decent folder. It is massive, it is heavy, but the lock is quite robust. It will only fit in my ACU and other cargo-type pockets, but the clip is so low that it sticks out about an inch and a half...not a great pocket folder. It will ride nicely inside the waistband if you have loose/baggy pants.

Fit and finish is actually quite nice. I'm a known knife-nut at work, so during the next meeting this will definately get a chuckle when I whip it out to clean my nails:D Just from toying with it, I think it would hold up to light chopping...I'll put the 'ol concertina glove on and try some chopping this weekend; not something I would expect to do a lot of chopping with though.

This mega folder has little practical use...that's evident to most, but it's nice that some will push the envelop a little (even if they do "borrow" some features).

Th CS rajah is an excellent camp knife it slices/cuts VERY WELL (do any of you remember that is what a knife is made for ;) )

I DESPISE the advertising of CS, but they make some good products, some junk too, ALL companies make good and bad, depends on what YOU are into.....

I DESPISE the advertising of CS, .....
Funny. A few days ago, I was looking for a DVD and out dropped one of the PROOF series. I popped it in the player and watched about 5 minutes.

Incredibly boring. I remember enjoying the first couple of videos for the novelty of it and the chance to see the knives in hand, but what a cure for insomnia they are.

We go on and on about his over-the-top advertising. These vids are probably a good idea. I bet he gets a lot of people interested in his product line -- they're animated catalogs, after all.

But they could have been so much better. He hasn't changed the simplistic format since the early days.
