wow, its amazing how crap companies get away with stuff like this

Almost the exact same. I bought one off ebay to compare (for $5, WTF), and they look nearly the same in the build. That's where the similarities ended; the pivot was not nearly as smooth, the lock felt weak, and the knife just didn't feel as good in my hand.

Definitely a knock off copy cat, whether intentional or not.

Why would you support a company like that and buy it? Even if it was second hand, I still just do not buy knock offs. It is just an integrity issue for me. I cannot support unethical businesses with my purchasing dollars.

I am with cj on this. Years ago when I was young and first began collecting, I picked up one here or there without even knowing that they were illegal copies. Now that I know better I flat out refuse to buy an unlicensed copy of a designers hard work:thumbdn: Think before you give your hard earned dollars to those undeserving. Just my opinion.

i mean, come on, that thing is like an exact copy of the cold steel ti-lite VI
its a shame that mtech gets away with this

With customers like this lurking out there, it should not come as a shock what companies would stoop to in order to make a sale. Too bad the poster in the thread I linked to asked for a Spyderco wannabe, and not a Cold Steel wannabe, or I would have directed him here.

Amen!

I guess you buy illegal copies of movies on DVDs too.
I just download them, it's cheaper!

Honestly, if I could beat the brakes off a dirt-cheap knife and have it hold up for more than a day, I'd probably be less against purchasing them. But, spending more money to get a quality product has always worked in the past, so I guess I'm stuck with the good stuff.

Ripped off designs in the knife industry are just something you're gonna have to get used to - they're more common than you think they are.

Cold Steel isn't exactly innocent either, but I'll leave it there since that particular subject is rather ubiquitous.

Cold Steel has had way more than a few of their models copied over the years and not just by knockoff Companies either......

Like a well known Highly regarded Company that copied Cold Steels Trail Master, Recon Scout and SRK and a few others and still sells them today... And they get recommended all the time. ;)

This complaint in reference to CS is actually a little humorous, isn't it?

No, not really...

My point is that there are a lot of them that borrow designs from others and no it's not funny.

My other point was that people point their fingers at CS, but tend to forget or overlook they have been one of the most copied manufacturers around. ;)

That is all for the Lawyers and Courts to hash out though, not people on the forums.

Are you implying that CS does NOT copy other's designs?

In most folks opinion they do, thus the humor. Kind of like watching a burglar get stuck in a window, and getting his wallet lifted while he's stuck.

Yeah they have one currently as of now....... All the rest are gone, discontinued....

And that was due to an issue with another said company, but that is between LCT and that said company, and we all know that story....

I think that a lot of popular knife designs are popular because they work. A company with integrity that does it's own research and design that comes out with a quality product that just happens to have similarities with other popular knives of a different brand are one thing that knife nuts understand.

An unscrupulous company just looking to make a quick buck by knocking off a popular design from a respected company, by turning out a product with poor materials and poor quality all around is another thing entirely.
