WSK knife Blank Kit

Thanks for all the input guys. Seems sawbacks are losing there appeal nowadays. I also use mine to comb cordage out of cattail leaves and reeds.

I’ve never had a sawback, but like I said I’d like to give one a try.

No saw teeth. No gut hook, doesn't work too well. Smooth out the design into a recurve. -Just my .02.

I agree with flatgrinder. Lose the sawteeth and smooth it out. Might make a good little chopper if it was more of a recurve. I'd also like to see how it does with a convex grind on it.

If you change the design too much it will just be a big bowie.

I think if you leave the profile alone but make the draw knife a flat grind and the curved area convex it would be great. In this case I think the gut hook would have to stay to make definiton between the two grinds.

I would be interested in the blank if the price was right by the way.

I guess I am the only one who can't see it?? The WSK gave me my first intro into custom knives back in '95. I would like to think that I would like to have a HT blade (flat/convex seems good)- but would like to see it first.

The picture a few post down from the top was working up until this afternoon.

I'd probably buy one for 50(ish) bucks if it didn't have sawteeth (or a false edge of any kind) and if it was heat-treated. For that price i'd buy one just to try it out.
Really if i want saw teeth i'll use one of my SAK's or a Fiskars saw.

The knifes chopping "sweet-spot" looks like it would be almost exactly in the spot where it transitions from draw-knife edge to the curved blade.
For me that would make it kind of awkward when chopping.
I noticed in Noss's test that when he chopped he tended to hit the wood with that transition section of the blade.
To me i would rather have draw-knife edge shortened and the curved section lengthened.
But for 50$ i'd probably buy one (with heatreat and sans sawteeth)just to see if i like it.

Edit- Also no gut-hook please.

Me too. No sawteeth and heat treated. Around $50 I'd definitely try one also. Gut hook doesn't bother me. I think I would prefer it with the gut hook but not necessarily for that purpose.

50 would be excellant. I might go a bit higher, no more then 100 though- give or take 5.00. I would like to see how well this performs.
