WSK knife Blank Kit

I don't know much about saw teeth on blades, it would seem that they would need to be hardened? If for some reason they don't, heat treat via edge quench would allow people to put their own teeth on. This would also allow individuals to add thumb grooves, etc... (not sure if they were in the picture or not).

Just some thoughts, but seems having two different choices wouldn't be a big deal (as long as no-teeth is cheaper!).

$50 would be great.

I don't think you're going to find someone who will make that kind of blade for under $100.00. If you could people like Linger, Horan and Terrell wouldn't be selling the finished product for what they do(plus the long waiting lists), as putting on the handles is the least labor intensive part of these knives. If you want a WSK for under $100.00, get a copy of Goddards "The 50 dollar knife shop" and make one. That's what I did. I posted pics last summer under "My homemade WSK" on this forum. Number two is in production, just have to heat treat, polish and do the handles (I'm thinking orange G-10). Cost will be under $35.00 to make. On the one I posted pics of, the only power tools used were a small benchtop grinder and a power drill. So go for it, make your own blade the way you like, save money, no wait and good fun

I'd be really interested if you could point us to that earlier post. And, if you didn't do so in that post, it'd be really interesting if you went into some details about the making of it--what steel, how you did the heat treat, etc.

Ted, I beleive that this project is possible if there is enough interest and the cost could be kept down. Heat treating our own is where we save money and gain some knowledge.
No sawback would save a lot of money since it would be the most complicated process.

I'd sure like to see this happen. I'd love to see how everybody modifies and finishes the blades.

I've seen and held HN Schwartz's WSK, and it's a heck of a lot nicer than my TOPS version.

Glad it sounds feasible. Any chance of a 'recurve' version?

What rough price range might we be looking at for X amount of people buying? ($100/50 people, $75/100 people...)

Get this in the works! Im not a huge fan of the tracker design but I'd like to see what I can do with a blank.

I found the earlier post, it’s got a little about what its made of and how it was made.

I'd be interested simply cuz it's an American made carbon steel blank.
I like the original design, and the variations requested.

Amazing work, Hnschwartz. I really like the less-abrupt transition from the straight edge near the handle to the rounded chopping edge part.
