Like the engraving. I could never pull that off. Nice touch.

Thanks, but it isn't engraving, it's reverse etching. I draw it on nice and thick with a fine sharpie, then set it in some vinegar for a few hours, pull it out, clean the slime off and hit it with 0000 steel wool. :D

That works??? Cool, I wouldnt have guessed that a sharpie could stop the patina...man, I am gonna do that TONIGHT! Very cool tip!

yeah, the sharpie method works pretty well. I've done some with beeswax, too. The sharpie method works better, oddly.

Sharpie also works when you solder things like a guard to a blade. Color any place where you don't want the solder to go. It saves you a lot of clean up.

Guys a few things I forgot earlier is that your knife MUST BE EXTREMELY CLEAN for it to work well. I wipe the entire blade down with clean cotton balls and common isopropyl alcohol. You'll want to use something that does not leave a residue. Once clean I lay it on a paper towel and draw what I want on that side, I also will go back over it pointillism style as it seems to really lay on the ink. Then to flip it just raise one side of the paper towel to flip the blade to the other side. I'll use tongs to place it in the vinegar bath. anytime you touch the blade with your finger you leave oil deposits, which will act as a resist and not etch evenly. you could even do a makers mark using a fingerprint... That'd be kinda cool :D

Wow. Thats a great tip. Thanks Ray.

I cant take credit for the tip though. I got it from an ABS hammer in when one of the mastersmiths was teaching about handles and guards. I dont actually solder my guards these days like I did when I first started making knives.

What type of vinegar if you do not mind?

I have a funny feeling that a new review thread is being constructed... Thanks for all your work, Fellas...
