I got a zt and have had Emerson's and now own 1 of each. I find that the Emerson just performs better for me! I wanted to like zt I really did but I didn't like the elmax, the way it road in my pocket Ect. I still believe my zt has a place and will still see use just in different situations !

Man, it it were legal to carry this bad boy all the time, it would never leave my pocket. It's gotten a few more scuffs since this pick was taken, but it still shines in every way. It is my smoothest and most functional Emerson. Love it.

understanding internet trolls, if you lock it, they will only show up on another thread, and HI JACK IT.

Many years ago I tried to set up an internet Message Board to promote a muzzle loading shoot. Some how we were discovered by a Troll who went by something like NOT KATHYS SON CODY all he did was put up anti firearms, anti second amendment dribble.

In the end he won because we were not able to edit or delegate his postings. So the lesson was TROLLS in the early days of the internet were able to control the internet.

I still think locking a tread only invites Trolls to show up again in another thread, this forum has enough members to silane the Trolls IMHO.

ya dipstick I paid to be a member just so I could troll the emerson chat. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you. Get a grip pal

isnt the reason the OP is complaining exactly the reason why emerson does collaborations? emerson makes his knives one way, but then he does collaborations with companies like ZT so you can still get an emerson design in different materials and whatnot, so whats the bid deal? you are wondering why emerson doesnt make a knife like the zt emerson when he basically just did.

Funny I just finshed this last night and found this thread this morning. I'm just an amateur at this part of the knife world but all the people who I emailed pics said it is petty "nice" and it's an Emerson! Learned about Emerson's a few years back. Been buying them and using them since, along with others. I own everything from $20.00 Kershaws in my toolbox up to $400 Chris Reeve Sebenzas and others. Same for fixed blades. CRKT all the way up to Busse. Emerson makes a really tough tool that is hard to beat and Ernie is about as stand up a guy as you could want to meet. I never met him personally but there are too many stories out there that vouch for his integrity and humility. He makes one helluva great knife that has stood the test of time. Tough to do these days.

To the OP, I honestly don't disagree with all your points. There's plenty I don't like about Emerson knives (plenty I do, though, and some of my complaints seem to have been addressed in recent years), but they are a well established business. You've said you're a business owner, so let me ask you this: If you had so much business that you sold every single product you made, would you screw with the formula? I'll be brutally honest, I think a large portion of Emerson sales are due to silly fanboys, wannabe badasses, etc., but the bottom line is they make a solid product that has sold well for more than a decade.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the wave patent to expire so it pops up on knives that have better locks, better steel and are more realistically priced. I recommend you do the same.

Mic77, you really should back up and look how you approached this topic. Context is very important, and that includes the forum (literally in this case). There are a lot of frequent poster Emerson lovers in this dedicated Emerson area, and I think that is something of which you are aware. My comments in this post are not directed at your topic but rather your method of asking.

You alluded to your 5 year old daughter in one of your responses. As a newcomer here, it's not a completely terrible analogy to compare you to her in relation to long established "adults" in here. Let me quickly add this isn't an insult to you, but rather a representation of the context with regard to reputation or lack thereof. Now, I'd hazard a guess that you don't mind her politely and respectfully questioning something regarding a element of strong interest to you, but if she's the opposite in querying you, she's less likely to get a "topic-related" answer than she is to be disciplined.

Frankly sir, I for one don't want to be insulted by you, and I don't want to insult you either. I don't particularly like having to "qualify" myself to someone who has impolitely thrust himself into a manufacturer specific forum to denigrate that specific manufacturer, and so I won't . Suffice it to say I have more than adequate knife wherewithal, and my reasons for STRONGLY preferring Emerson knives are legitimate.

I reiterate you should consider how you approached this topic.

Hale Storm, that's outstanding work, I love it.

THANK YOU. I have stock models and a few I've "pimped". Underneath the mods on the outside is all Emerson on the inside. Doesn't need anything done to it, I just like to make mine unique.
Carrying these around, especially at local gun/knife shows (I live with 5 million people here in Houston so our gun/knife shows are frequent and HUGE), gets it noticed and opens up conversations and fondling of other Emersons with other like minded people. Nice chance to see other models and users.

The Wave Patent will not expire anytime soon. Sorry to disappoint.

I'm a lurker.

The Zt is not the knife we wanted... it's the knife you wanted. I want a liner lock with g10 on both sides, not just one as in a frame lock. IMO, frame locks are not tactical, despite the current framelock dogpile.

The quality of this generation of Emerson knives with standoffs is the best ever, and even if Zt/Kershaw can make a decent knife too I will never buy a KAI product. Even though Emerson is collaborating with them and some people here may like the collab knives, I hate KAI as a company and will never buy their knives.
You. I like you. You need to post around here more often :)

Although I'm new to Emersons, I'm not new to knives. I picked up a kershaw CQC-6K to introduce myself to Emerson knives. I like the basic design and ergos, but it is heavy, g10 not grippy enough and the end of the blade is bent, has an odd twist to it, but it turned me on to Emerson. I like to do research, in general, especially on products before I buy them. I liked what I found out about Ernest Emerson himself as well as his company. I settled on a Micro Commander so I would be able to legally carry it wherever I went. I found it to be exactly what I was looking for. Tough, fits my hand, grippy G10, light, stays in my pocket and most of all, simplistic in the best sense! Materials that work, no trendy super steels that will be replaced as soon as the next come out and screws that I can use my swiss army knife on to adjust. I love the single edge grind especially since I'm not the best at sharpening :D
I also like the fact that is was designed by a guy with experience, not a team of design engineers and marketing people fresh out of college.

Some may call me a fan boy, so be it, I'm a fan for a reason

thanks for letting me put my dollars worht of 2 cents in:)

Trust me, or don't, but it won't expire after 3-5 years either. Do you think Apple will let all of their patents expire? I'll just say that it's not coming anytime soon.

Not to be too contentious, but it's not a matter of letting patents expire. They aren't like trademarks, which can be renewed, they expire and can only be extended under extremely specific circumstances and even then generally for very short amounts of time. If they didn't expire we wouldn't have generic medications around.

I'll just say that we've done our homework.
