WV Wild and Wonderful

OMG!! I've been to Seneca Rocks!! Long time ago...but I've been there! Really beautiful country!

Its the Sedona of the East:thumbup: Not really but cool too.

THe climate however is very similar to that of Canada. West Virginia Mountain Highlands. google it. Lots of history in WV. Wheeling was the staging town for most easterners traveling out west. Lot of towns from mid 1700's. Still the last American frontier for us on East coast.

Ban ,

Its Seneca Rocks, West Virginia. I think its a National or state park etc

you got to bring your wife, kids, and your mistress? wow, impressive. that a WV thing? I thought it was more about cousins and sisters?

beautiful place and family, all jokes aside. congratulations...

+1 on Jarvis' video of the grouse chase. To make it extra funny I'd want at least part of it to be from the grouse's point of view. :)

Curious as to how long you carry your little girl like that. My girls like to ride their Daddy, but after an hour or so my neck kills me the next day. I'm trying to work my stamina up though.

You gotta keep in mind she's the third:D:thumbup:

I have gotten some practice, but an hour is admirable.

I hurt the next day after this trip, but it was nothing compared to Disney.

Last year we did two weeks in the swamp of Fla in August:foot: and I toted the two little ones alot

Never again. No offense to Europeans, but I guess ya'll get off for August or so.

Well the park was full of sweaty Europeans with 100% humidity and 95 degree heat or maybe the other way around

What do you folks have against showers?????

I thought that was why Euro Disney was built...to keeps ya'lls stinkin arrsss'

at home during the summer:D:thumbup:

LMAO!!

You think THAT'S bad? Come down to where the REAL swamp is...

By early Feb it was up to mid 80's, and humidity was like 85%. Sheeesh!

Beautiful day today, though. Low-mid 70's, sunny, with a nice breeze. I'm sittin' out in my boxers, the dogs are hanging out in the shade under the avocado tree.

(Yes, I took the day off. Freakin' migraine early this morning would even let me lift my head. Those two Tylenol PM's helped be out, though. : ) )

Yeh, right...down here in Miami, if you're not on the water the nights are STILL a mother-in-law (well, maybe not MY M.I.L...I couldn't really ask for better, but you know what I mean.) : )

Thanks for the drink recipe, but all I have with me right now is bottle of Bacardi (homage to my little island) and a bottle of the Glenlivet (homage to another nice little island. ; ) )

Would be happy to be stranded for awhile on either of those two Islands.

and have never had a problem with either working:thumbup:

Hey! I got your Seneca Rocks;)

Here's one of my wife at "The Point" which is on the unofficial canyon rim trail in Roaring Plains. It is the junction of Roaring Creek and Long Run Canyons and you can see Seneca Rocks far below in the distance. From the Point you can see Seneca Rocks, Champe Rocks and all 24 miles of North Fork Mt by turning your head.

Here's another one farther to the North of us on the pipeline swath that cuts thru Roaring Plains and you can see Seneca Rocks behind us. The first picture was about 5 miles or so further south. You pick up the "hidden passage" trail off of this pipeline and it connects to the canyon rim trail.

Here's another pic from "the Point" I'm in near the same place as my wife was in the first one but the pic is taken from farther away. I'm holding my arms out setting on the promontory and you can see Seneca Rocks to my right

OK now here is the BACK of Seneca Rocks from up on North Fork Mountain? Know where that is?

Monongahela National Forest

Speaking of Trippy places ever been up on Chimney rocks on North Fork Mt.

North Fork Mountain Trail starts on 33 near Judy Gap and then continues for 24 miles to it's northern Terminus on Smoke Hole Road.

The only bad thing about NFM is there is NO water so you must carry ALL of your water.

Luckily there is a road to the top halfway that dead ends at a microwave tower. We took 3 cars and parked one on top with extra water so we only had to carry 2 days worth of water on each leg of the trip. 24 miles total.

Very worthy backpacking trip.

Some pics
My friend Kate in the morning watching the fog come up. I believe that's Champe Rocks below her

Some of the pics did not fully load for me, but your family, and the setting, are beautiful. Ten acres is a nice little chunk. God Bless.

Me, too!

I even climbed those rocks ... when I was younger.

As I recall, I also trained a few Girl Scout troops on single rope technique off those Rocks. Fun days ...

For those of you folks that wanted to see Knife Hunters sheath setup...
Here are some pics....
