WWlll Is Being Televised

Any God who demands the death of innocent women and children, or who demands the death of nonbelievers and those who refuse to convert to Islam, cannot possibly be the same God of Love that I worship. Is there a God?...As a Biologist, the interconnectedness of all life in general, and the intricate details of each organism specifically argue for the existance of a Creator. Those organisms who adapt, fitting themselves to work in concert with the natural order, survive long enough to raise offspring. Suicide bombers are just speeding up the process of 'non-selection'. I just wish I was young enough to go over and help them on their way!:rolleyes: ;) :D

Great sentiment, and I know a lot of the young people in the armed forces share it. Terrorists get no sympathy from me. If there was ever an evil which deserved erradication, Terrorists are it.

But if the SHTF, there isn't anywhere to hide, is there?

No there really isn't. And that applies to a lot more than just war and violence. there is nowhere to hide from our problems or ourselves.

If THAT message made it to the world at large it would solve most if not all of the problems we see IMHO.

This is just all so nuts, is what I mean.

That people would kill one another for centuries on theological beliefs just doesn't seem like something that could still happen in 2006.

And when that North Korean nutjob gives his Iranian friends the first Moslem bomb, I can guess where the "believers" willl say that "G-d" told them to put it. Kill, Kill, Kill. Savages.

G-d never tells them, "Stop killing one another over philosophical beliefs."

I'll second that. Where are all the break-through moments? Like when Gorbechek came to the US to see Reagan, like the Berlin wall coming down, like someone breaking out of form and type and cast and reaching out?

Where are our elected officials stepping beyond the ordinary and attempting greatness?
And if they do, where are we? Will we stand by them, or snipe from the press or sidelines?

I agree 100%-BUT if we really want to make this place (our world) a better place we need to be rid of all Terrorists...inculding the far-out christain whackos who kill because of abortion;the tree huggers who burn down stuff to save an owl etc.

I'm all for it,just start blowing them all to hell and maybe we'll survive.

Wars are a natural process. They happen when the population density reaches a saturation point. Then you either find more land, increase the productivity of the available land, or reduce the population - by starving, shooting, and blowing it up. With all the talk about divine will, and values; we often forget that Man is but an animal. Better able to adjust to his environment then most; but, still driven by the same urge for individual survival.

Really cool website I found this week.

www.arabsforisrael.com

Very unique perspective of an Egyptian woman and her opinions on the institutionalized racism that Arabs are tought in school and church. And here is an interesting quote from the Quaran on her page recognizing Israel.

"26:59 Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things (the promised land)"

And this is an e-mail she's posted on her page from an Arab man.

"I need a calculator!

When I heard Hamas refusing to recognise the existence of Israel I went to check the Quran about Israel and Palestine.....Interestingly, Israel (That >Hamas dose not want to recognise!) was mentioned as for 49 times as a word >and as 118 times as a meaning!
While, on the other hand, Palestine" was NOT mentioned even for once!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i.e. Palatine was mentioned Zero times.
I just wondered how Hamas and the Palestinians and Muslims after this, deny the rights of Israel to exist !!!!!!!!!!

Love to you all
T.Hamid "

Interesting stuff.

There has been a war going on somewhere every year of my life.

This conflict began before WW II ended, and it has been going in fits and starts ever since. Full-scale battles between multiple nationstates with 10,000's of troops four times, last in 1973 (See "Yom Kippur War" -- Egyptian 25th Armoured Brigade slaughtered at Chinese Farm). What's going on today is relatively tame by comparison. Little consolation to the dead, mamed, and terrified.

"What nature doesn't do to us is done by our fellow man." :(

September 1, 1939
by W. H. Auden

I sit in one of the dives
On Fifty-second Street
Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth,
Obsessing our private lives;
The unmentionable odour of death
Offends the September night.

Accurate scholarship can
Unearth the whole offence
From Luther until now
That has driven a culture mad,
Find what occurred at Linz,
What huge imago made
A psychopathic god:
I and the public know
What all schoolchildren learn,
Those to whom evil is done
Do evil in return.

Exiled Thucydides knew
All that a speech can say
About Democracy,
And what dictators do,
The elderly rubbish they talk
To an apathetic grave;
Analysed all in his book,
The enlightenment driven away,
The habit-forming pain,
Mismanagement and grief:
We must suffer them all again.

Into this neutral air
Where blind skyscrapers use
Their full height to proclaim
The strength of Collective Man,
Each language pours its vain
Competitive excuse:
But who can live for long
In an euphoric dream;
Out of the mirror they stare,
Imperialism's face
And the international wrong.

Faces along the bar
Cling to their average day:
The lights must never go out,
The music must always play,
All the conventions conspire
To make this fort assume
The furniture of home;
Lest we should see where we are,
Lost in a haunted wood,
Children afraid of the night
Who have never been happy or good.

The windiest militant trash
Important Persons shout
Is not so crude as our wish:
What mad Nijinsky wrote
About Diaghilev
Is true of the normal heart;
For the error bred in the bone
Of each woman and each man
Craves what it cannot have,
Not universal love
But to be loved alone.

From the conservative dark
Into the ethical life
The dense commuters come,
Repeating their morning vow;
'I will be true to the wife,
I'll concentrate more on my work,'
And helpless governors wake
To resume their compulsory game:
Who can release them now,
Who can reach the dead,
Who can speak for the dumb?

All I have is a voice
To undo the folded lie,
The romantic lie in the brain
Of the sensual man-in-the-street
And the lie of Authority
Whose buildings grope the sky:
There is no such thing as the State
And no one exists alone;
Hunger allows no choice
To the citizen or the police;
We must love one another or die.

Defenseless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

payback

rumbling thunder over the hills
tanks across the landscape slowly clank
people slipping quietly away as heaven fills
with smoke from rockets flaring far above the river's bank

instead of crops we'll plant the land with graves
like mushrooms growing in the dark of damp and lonely caves

and if you'd rather do without the shriek and stink of war
then maybe you should think before you bring it to our door

Ya know what amazes me the most about the world? By and large, it's filled with pretty damn good people. It's just that all those good people have a tendency to get together and do dumb things. We're as guilty as anybody, because we're all human and we can all be dumb. But we can also all be damn good people. If only the whole world could just start thinking on an individual level before going in guns blazing. And that goes for everybody.

Individuals the world over can be and in most cases are good people. Mobs are rarely good.

Chris

ALL individuals the world over are not good people. What do you do when one of them stands up and begins shooting at you? Start thinking on an individual level before going in guns blazing, or react quickly to eliminate the threat?

:eek: I don't think that it's really about religion that much. Religion like always is just an excuse.

I DO agree like somebody said above it has a lot to do with population and also about economics.

Also has to do with policy. Did we bomb N.Korea over the Pueblo?

I think Newt was the first one to say WW3 on Meet the Press. I think by making people think that it's the Islamic folks against the rest of us it simplifies it and he's hoping to get people to circle the wagons more and shore up support for global military adventure, at a time when people are starting to wise up to the complexities of the whole situation. Plus it was a signal to the military industrial complex to start sending $$$ his way for his 08 bid, that he's gonna guarantee they are gonna have LOTS of business in the future:eek:

Great poetry, thank you Esav.

Hollow, a lot of us said it was WWlll on the day of the Twin towers falling.

Israel cannot sit there and allow rockets to land. It gave up the land- and guess what? The terrorists did not wish to negotiate or say thank you.

One thing that might help- if the world would stop seeing and broadcasting all values as equal. All claims are not equal. A distorted need to be 'fair' has crippled us.

Poor Israel. Everything it does is 'wrong'.

Although the general outlook is depressing, this is an excellent time to be in the cable news business due to the increasing number of lead stories available for the weekly rotation.

1) Monday - Bird Flu is about the kill us.

2) Tuesday - The stock market is due to crash and return us to an 1800's economy and kill a bunch of us.

3) Wednesday - The climate is shifting which will result in a bunch of us getting killed.

4) Thursday - The Moslem Horde is resurrecting itself with the intent to kill everybody but them.

5) Friday - To be announced.

To top it all off, the quality of broadcast is unprecedented. WWI was poor quality B&W, WWII high quality B&W, Vietnam so-so color, but HDTV is coming on-line for WWIII.

Love the poetry Essav. :thumbup:

Take hope people. The world isn't ending. The threat is being addressed. Hopefully, a long shot, but hopefully, we can have the problem adequately solved before my daughter has to deal with it. Running away for the sake of peace is ludicrous, has been tried and tried, and doesn't work. Be glad you're here when we have the wherwithall to solve this crisis. Things don't go badly, hell, the Arab League has taken a stand against the actions of Hezbola and its backers in SUPPORT of Israel. This is a new stace by the Arab Middle East, its progress. Be positive, things go well.

I agree with Munk, WWIII was engaged on 9/11.

Thanks also for the poetry, Esav, and to you Andy, for the positive thoughts.

My Pee Wee baseball coach said to us 8 year olds, "you can strike out, but you had better strike out swinging!" (no T ball back then, that I ever heard of.)

I took a sort of grim optimism from that.

"summer and winter, seed time and harvest, shall not cease, while the Earth remains."

Or something very like that.

Tom

PS Grim optimism, or better yet, a deep, almost hidden, faith that, contrary to the sight of one's eyes, all will be ultimately well. I think that made the difference between Aragorn and Denethor, and how they carried themselves, in the blackest and bleakest of times.

ESAV, once again several of your posts are striking deep reverberating chords. When some armed terrorist brings the conflict to you and yours, it is time RIGHT THEN to cut him out like a cancer, continuing until you are reasonably sure the problem is gone. One would not ask a doctor to remove half of your cancer, n'est pas? This is why I cannot understand the citizens of Bagdad, who apparently stand by and say nothing as terrorists move through their neighborhoods enroute to their next victims.....WHY aren't hundreds of the "good" Iraqis all standing up screaming "There they go, get the bast@&*#s"......it beats me! I have met some delightful people when working in Lebanon, Turkey, and Iran years ago, as well some intelligent, competent, and friendly Islamic folks here.....but the majority of Islam now appears to be composed of nut cases who would rather have explosives than food in their possession. I simply don't understand what I'm seeing on TV anymore....It certainly doesn't square with my previous experience. All that not withstanding, if someone goes after your family, YOU ACT THEN before it's too late.
