XHP Recon 1

Actually, it should be considered a step up because of having slightly more carbon and a lot more chromium.

So, because of that, it should have better edge-holding/wear-resistance and corrosion/stain resistance too.

From talking with Robert at Blade, the blades are made and heat treated here with American steel, then sent overseas for DLC coating and final assembly, then back here.

Can't wait for this one to come on sale without the serrations. And the price is good too.

Agree. I do not mind spending some money on a good quality steel on a knife that has an already excellent design. For what you get for a $120 it's a lot better value in terms of steel than what the $75 tag in AUS8 gives you normally.

We have a limited supply of XHP Edition Recon I folders for sale HERE

I really, really miss the "Ultra Lock". You'll never see me sell my original series Recon 1. I know why you switched, Cold Steel, and the Triad is also a great lock, I own some with it too, but man..the Ultra, after a sufficient work in, is buttery smooth. Lynn and the whole company just keeps doing great things the regular working man can afford, and I'm a fan. Just wish you still made the Ultra.

P.S.- LOVE the MAA line. Good Work.

hey, one more thing. how about a breastplate and some gauntlets, maybe? Maybe a helm? Something in blackened steel with black leather backing would be good.

So, i got my new Recon today, and while i love the DLC, i am somewhat bothered by the blade grind.

On the side with the "Recon" text, the blade is ground a good few mm. On the other side, there is almost no grind, especially at the tip. Is this normal for the 50/50 blades? I can say my straight Recon 1 is equal on both sides.
The blade feels sharp, but it looks really unequal, and i question future sharpening (assuming i use it, and not keep it nice and safe).

Pics if they help..

Mine is the same way. When it gets dull I plan on evening out the other side on my wicked edge.

Remember that Cold Steel's serrated blades are practically chisel ground. The combo edge is probably biased to one side to avoid the the serrations being offset from the plain edge.

Actually, the same can be said for 99% of combo edge or fully serrated knives.

note on CS XHP Recon 1....the steel is US but it is marked Taiwan on blade, still a very well put together folder, but reviewing the CS e-mail it doesn't let you know its not all USA made... It made think why didn't I verify its origin before I ordered it.
