XM Gen 4

And I finally got one on the secondary market. It was over priced vs the original price but under priced considering Fleabay and Dealers had it marked up to 900+. Although i would be happier to spend less, the price I got it for relative to others is mid range. I took the deal. Its a great knife. I will say this. I just sold a HOGFSH for less than I paid the Hinderer. This is a .32 inch thick, eight inch custom knife from Busse. You couldnt break this think without a machine. It seems like I sold more for less. But the free market does determine the price of goods except when it comes to the FED (but thats not a topic for this forum ;) ) See Busse also used to be more expensive n the 2ndary market because Jerry would stop production of a model and never make any others. But he changed his model of sales and now floods the secondary market with past production models from the knife shows. So now, we see a lot more customs and "older"/d/c'd models bringing the overall prices down for the secondary. My point is, I know I wouldnt pay say, 900+ for a Hinderer but i would pay what I did which was less than double the price of a straight from the factory. I also make at least 3x as much as a first responder so I guess its all relative, sort of :). Hey if i choose to sell it I will be able to make my money back, so im not worried. Its still a sweet knife. But I was surprised how much bigger it was than my mini-griptillian.

Cappy,

Dude, not trying to be a dick but why this constant harping on the price of the knives? If you are going to obsess on the price why bother buying one? Most of us here are fans because of the quality and the dedication of the company to its customers. The vast majority of people who frequent this forum know what the knife costs and the manufacturer frowns on discussions concerning aftermarket pricing. How about some thoughts on the knife itself? The price harping is getting is old.

Well, originally I couldnt comment on the quality because I couldnt get my hands on one without dropping a grand. I think 380$ is very reasonable for a high end production 3.5 inch knife (folder or fixed). I have all high end stuff. Kifarus, Busses, etc so Im not a stranger to spending money on good stuff. Now a 380% markup by dealers is plain highway robbery, thats just my opinion. I dont have any problems with the manufacturers price but come on. Im just glad that some people that sell them have a somewhat reasonable expectation of what they should cost. Dont forget that first responders get them for cost. Alot of them dont even want them..they just want to flip them which is fine by me. Let the free market decide. But a 380 to 1180 price hike is just plain dirty in my book. and I could have bought one at that price but decided not to and waited for a better deal which i got. But when I started this post, I found those ebay/dealer prices kind of laughable. Its an awesome folder (the best Ive seen, but >1000$ without any custom work, thats for suckers. This is my opinion only.

My thoughts on the knife for BP ;)

The knife is solid!! Its plain awesome. I have been flipping for the last 4 days but I am yet to cut anything. Hinderer has skills and I cant wait to get my hand on a 3"....so here is a question. you can basically ass Ti scales and Ti spacer but can you switch out the side opposite from the scales with a Ti replacement?

Where do you see $380? Even at the shows they were $385 and that's if you won the lottery. Where did you see a production for $1180? And that's still not 380%markup.

Dude? picky picky...380 or 385*? does that really matter? Sorry I didnt whip out my calculator, teach... ...come on bro? i was just making a point..
heres the math for the sticklers
380%=3.8x
3.8x 385 =1463$ which are still some prices you see.
wicked sorry

Pricing...from Robs Post on page 2.

3" & 3.5" XM-18 Productions $385.00 - Customs $550 and up
XM-24 Productions $550 - Customs $700 and up

DLC production 24s $615

and yes there is a dealer in the dealer forum who has them that high...does it really matter if it was a little exaggerated? and fleabay which i mentioned has them that high priced as well.

I have never in my life seen a production 4th Gen XM18 go for anywhere near $1463...
I think you are confused, do you know what you are looking at. Is it possibly a 3rd or 4th gen Custom?

JESUS!!... i was saying that my math was wrong in the last post. I have seen gen 3's at that price on fleabay. What is your freaking issue, want a tissue? get over it bro. the point was i threw the 380% increase out there. I didnt do the exact math. Its just the point that they go way up in price. Yes it was a bit of an exaggeration. Someone get this guy a trophy for debunking the legend. Get over it.

Hey guys. I am not going to take part in this back n forth on the pricing. Many authorized dealers have an understandable amount of mark up on these fine blades. I know that the Gen 4 XM 18 3.5 goes for about 5 bills when you can find them. The decision of if that is a fair price or not is in the eye of the purchaser. Enough about that from me. Please keep this civil and build a friendship not the alternative.
As to the question about "GTG"...they are gatherings that include the optional TDI training course at Rick's Ranch/Farm in OH. I have not attended yet but hope to one day. Look on pages 3,4 of this forum for more info. or use the search feature. Ultimately, I am not too knowledgeable about them but there are opportunities to buy knives at these gatherings. I believe it is a lottery system similar to the type done at shows.
