finally pulled the trigger and got myself a case peanut in CV. and with reading all of jackknife's amazing stories about a small yeller handled peanut, i had to get mine with yeller handles :D. i love it and cant wait for the patina to start. thought i would make a thread that is largely influenced by mnblade's thread "The life of a Case peanut from Day 1." which i love and i thought this would be a cool way to document the use, growth, and memories of my peanut. so as often as possible, i will be posting updated pics up of my peanut and posting pics of it in action.

here she is first day:

Sweet little Peanut,it will really grow on you over time!I barely notice that mine is in my pocket until I need it.I'm always feeling for it just to assure myself it's still there.I never miss carrying a larger folder in my jeans pocket anymore.I've been packing my Case Damascus Peanut steady now since April. It has become my favorite folder.:)

Good going!

If you're going to jump in the peanut pool, it's hard to wrong with yella handles and carbon blades. Looks sooo cool with a patina. Of course, now that you're a full fledged member of the cult, you have to uphold the faith. This means using the yella 'nut in public with pride in the minimalism of the cult. You may also want to keep an Altoids or small tobacco tin full of miscellaneous stuff for fishing and small repairs. :D

They're so cute at that age! :D Great looking knife. Use it in good health .... and, as Carl said, in public with pride.

thats a nice peanut man! actually I might go to the store and pick me up a CV case peanut tomorrow. I also have been reading jackknife's stories for a week or two haha

Hi guys!

Congratz to that nice knife. I also own a peanut (Blue Jigged Bones). Carried it already for some time as an EDC. I also enjoys jackknives stories. Unfortunatelly I didn´t understand some of them, the words and grammar is not as good as a mother-tongue.

Kind regards
Andi

thanks so much guys! especially to Carl and mnblade.

Carl ive actually started to put together a little altoids tin fishing kit. i know its gonna take some practice but i think it would be so cool to catch something with so little.

mdsmith, that peanut is beautiful! lovely patina. cant wait till mine looks like that.

bladeblabber, ive actually been in a huge slipjoint buying spree! i cant get enough of these! good to see you here!

Carl.

You know, I really like the idea of the candy tin full of small items like the stubby pencil, rubber bands, piece of paper, ect. It just has that folksy feel to it, especially paired up with a Case peanut and a bandana. The problem is that everytime I put one together I realize that I hardly ever use any of the stuff. I guess that's what happens when you live in the suburbs and work in an office.

Good work on startin your patina.
My mini trapper and peanut both have an almost black patina now, daily use and sweat.

I have a feeling im headin' in the same direction, really been diggin' the traditionals lately. are you carrying the peanut as your main EDC blade?

i guess you could say that. it started as the peanut being a back up to one of my one hand openers like the sebbie, but whenever a cutting chore comes up i try to use the peanut as much as possible. it hasnt let me down yet. so i guess you could say its my main edc blade now haha, however i still carry the peanut along side a one hand opener which still comes in handy time to time. but for the most part the peanut has passed with flying colors on everyday cutting chores.

xtonesterx, it looks like what you are experiencing is the joy of precise slicing. It's a weird offshoot of the joy of minimalisim, of using a smaller than norm object to achieve the same end. Carrying a small almost tiny pen knife that most people won't even notice, to do what needs to do. Kind of a one upmanship in reverse. Not to mention the experience of reducing the overall bulk and weight of what you carry day in and day out. I have a mild obsession of using the very smallest object/tool that I need to get the job done. Like carrying a small monocular on a hike instead of a binoculars, or using a light 35 or 40 pound recurve bow to get a deer. A lifetime hobby of back packing made me aware of onces instead of pounds. It makes life easier in many ways. Especially when you get older and don't want a heavy bunch of stuff to lug around.

Then there's the under the radar angle. Since I live just north of Washington D.C., I find myself 'downtown' often. The Smithsonian, art museums, federal buildings with security. It's nice to have a small innocent looking knife that nobody takes notice of in a bad way. As many times as I've been through some kind of building security with a peanut, the only time it's got a comment was in a positive light. One young guard picked it up out of the plastic tray and looked at it, and remarked that his grandfather carried an 'old fashioned' little knife like that. Even recognized the Case name.

With todays weird society, it's sometimes a good thing to be low key. But if there's cutting to be done, a small sharp peanut, mini copperhead, mini trapper, or the like can cut with the big boys if you have it sharp.

Carl.

I've been EDCing a yellow CV peanut for a few weeks now and I love it, I pair it up with a Becker BK14 for the gnarly tasks that I'd be afraid to use the peanut on. The Becker rarely comes out to play.

Carl, that could have been a story in it's own right! I have gotten a few complements on my mini trapper, and it's fun to watch the looks on the sheeple's faces, they start freaking out, and the patina calms them right down. It's creepy.

Hi xtonesterx -

Nice little knife!

I will watch for your updates to this thread.

Based on the one hander collections both Hatchetjack and XTonesterX have I am excited to see where this traditional path take them.

sorry guys i really do wish i had updated this thread more often. but alas i did not forget about it and have taken a couple of photos of my yella handle peanut. this little guy has had a permanent spot in my pocket since the day i got it and is starting to develop a very nice patina. the smaller pen blade is still nice and shiny cause i rarely use it. i like to keep that blade hair popping sharp at all times. this peanut has done everything from cutting hay bails, breaking down boxes, opening mail, cutting up canvas bags, food prep, cutting twine, and making fuzz sticks.

so heres a pic of the little guy slicing through a hot dog with ease for my mac and cheese.
