Howdy, I am a newly obsessed knife guy and want to start collecting flipper knives for every day carry. I have huge hands. My son is 7'1 and his are a little smaller. I have been playing with a Medford Preatorian an it kinda fits my hand. I just ordered a Enlan El-01 because I read on the forum it was a good cheap flipper. I was hoping some of you would have some recommendations of some knives that might work for me. I don't want a fancy knife at this point I will be using it every day in the field. I'm An Arborist-Tree man-climber. I'm not really opposed to custom knives but I just kind of need some help.

Buck open season folders have reasonably sized handles at 4.75". Still a half in shy of the Medford.

Cold steel recon has huge handles; listed at 5.375" and the code4 is listed at 5" even, great knives, great steel, but neither is a flipper...

Maybe:
ZT0200
Fantoni HB 01
Boker Plus Urban Trapper
ZT0452CF
ZT0560
Hinderer XM-24

Olamic Wayfarer. 4" blade, with a bulky handle, flipper, semi-custom, great selection of steel and scale materials...

I couldn't imagine somebody finding a wayfarer "too small"...

Urban trapper handle is less then 4.5"

But the zero tolerance brand does seem to have quite a few with 5"+ handles, might be a good place to start.

Microtech DOC
Steel Will Bruiser
Fox knives deimos
All Have massive 5.5" handles
Hammond cruiser or m21 by CRKT is a cheaper option over 5"

Kizlyar supreme biker
Crkt eraser
Kizer ki5404
All have 5"

A few more just shy of 5"
Wilson tactical RRX
Kershaw junkyard dog
A few other kizer options like the tomcat
Boker kwaiken
CRKT McGinnis summa
Kershaw thermite is another low budget solid knife option

All flippers too.
So there's a few different options, styles and price ranges that should work.

Considering the praetorian boasts a 5.25" handle, and you say it "kinda fits", I definitely would not go any smaller then 4.75" if your hands are that big, as those would be even on the smallish size for you... Maybe even drop the $ and go custom might be in order?

Fwiw, of that group I think the Deimos is the best looking, personally.

The Hammond cruiser is the cheapest

The DOC I believe is most expensive

The thermite or eraser are probably the the best bang for your buck as a work knife... Just my two cents.

3rd cent, just throwing it out there, at $20 a pop you can buy a Hammond cruiser in green, tan, and black, and beat em up at work... Also, typically most knife fans aren't huge fans of serrations, seeing it as a wasted length of "good blade" but for your particular occupation, tree climbing and such, the one thing serrations trump straight edges on in spades is "sawing" (wood), so for your work knives at least, it might be good to consider them for small branches and such.

I really appreciate the recommendations. It would have taken me years? To figure all those knives out.. You know your freakin knives, I looked up several and I'm going to buy the $20 ones to start and probably that biker one. I like the look of that one. This list will keep me entertained for awhile. Thanks a lot

What about the CRKT Mah Eraser? It's discontinued but you can still find plenty if you know where to look.

It's a pretty substantial flipper. Oh, and this is NOT my pic:

On the higher end, I'd say ZT 0452CF. Such an ergonomic knife with a 4.1 inch blade! Carries really great for a big knife.

Second to the last on the right side of pic:

Love the shape of the mah eraser but the corner at its bottom end pokes into my finger. An L hand might fit 4 fingers into the handle 's groove. Xxl doesn't and for sure not xxxxxl.

Just stumbled across one while browsing knives for myself, looking for any deals.

Cold Steel Voyager XL
Sounds like they made it just for you, boasting a 5.5" inch blade (in a couple different styles incl. fully serrated like a mini saw)

and an insane 6.75" handle!? It appears it is a pocket knife made for giants!?
It's no flipper though, but dang that's a big folding knife!

I second the ZT 0560/561. One of my best friends is 6'8 and has the biggest hands I've ever seen and his suits him great. So I would think you'd be fine with the same.

Beat me to it, John! I was going to suggest the 0452cf. Also, holy cow, putting it next to the Buck 110 really puts it into perspective, eh? Wow.

That's a handsome knife

If they weren't discontinued, I would say that you might be the only person I know of that would find the Lone Wolf T3 a handy sized pocket knife. I have big hands (XL), though not as big as yours, so I understand the need for generous handles on an EDC.

For myself, working in the bush, the folder I have preferred is the Gerber Applegate Fairbairn Covert. Sturdy, generous handles, partly serrated, good steel (154cm on the Covert, not the Combat, the Combat is 420hc), and made in the USA. But it is actually the little sibling to the Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder. That is another knife (coincidentally, also designed by Bill Harsey, a big handed Oregon Logger) that is just too big for me, even as a big large-handed guy, that might be the right size for you. The Handle is 5.64", just might be big enough even for you.
