Ya ever just given a knife away?

Sharing knives is part of the joy of this affliction.

Definitely...I've given plenty out, there's nothing like hooking a knife - less person up with a good carry knife,Hunting straight knives, too.

Have given away knives to both of my brothers, my daughter,
my son-in-law, my nephew, my grandson and granddaughter . :)
Got many pennies in return. That's an important tradition with me.
So far, the only one I know of who has cut himself has been me. :thumbdn:
Seems to be a tradition with me. :(

Yep- I have given away a number over the years (although they always seem to make it back to me for sharpening). Do my best to extend the addiction. First one is always free.......

I gave away a Gerber Mini Paraframe II and a Gerber Amulet to my co-workers last week
I told them had to carry it everyday or I was gonna be pissed off ;)

I have a hard time giving away "vintage" (pre 1990) knives
I did give my Dad's Imperial Alaska Fake MOP knife to my nephew though:thumbup:

Gradall5200, I have few spare USA schrade stockmans around, and would gladly give you one. If you are interested, send me a PM, or I'll post my e-mail, so I can get an address to send it to. Joe

That's the spirit Joe! I am sure Joel will be much appreciative after he gets back here to read your kind offer.

I have done this on a regular basis here on this forum and in my past and present demographics for many years now. It's a slipjoint owners duty if'n you ask me.:)

Best,
Anthony

I've given away some pretty inexpensive folding knives from time to time, and I've also been given a knife once or twice, although it is pretty rare, especially since almost no one around here, that I know of at least, carries a knife.

Just had a new furnace and AC installed over the last few days. The guy was excellent and it was a tough job. I felt that he performed the work with the attention to detail that he would do in his own house and realized how many short cuts had been taken on my old system. His sheet metal work and fitting was nothing short of a work of art that then got covered up with insulation. Some fine knifemakers came to mind you know the type that are "good when nobody is looking". ;) Every step he took was thought out with ergo's and longevity in mind.

A lot of things popped up that caused him to take about 8 hours longer than he had estimated and I gave him the chance to adjust the charges accordingly. After talking, he stood by his initial estimate. He left here with a silver script Case Seahorse whittler.

I give away several knives a year. Many of my friends and co workers are younger, and have never really had a pocket knife let alone a good one. When they show an interest in knives I almost always give them a Victorinox recruit. They are a pretty bullet proof knife, with a few extras that are useful. Other times if I am teaching them some sort of out door skill like cleaning fish, deer, or squirrels, I will give them a sod buster, or a old butcher knife or boning knife. I am also constantly giving my father knives, and he is turning in to a big Case fan. Joe

Yep. Nephews, nieces, my kids, wife, mother in law, father in law, cousins, random friends... yeah, I've given a few away. Never regretted it.

camcokid(joe) thanks a ton for the offer very generous and I do appreciate it but I would rather do some trading for thoes schrades, think I got a few camillus floating around here.- Joel

Having all of those extra knives must really be a chore.

Yep, I have probably given away nearly as many as I have kept. But not the collectible ones, use to give them to all my employees, all the contractors I worked with, customers and now on this forum. To him who is given a lot, much is required. What goes around, comes around.

It usually happens to me when I have the sharpmaker out at the office touching my knife or sharpening a co-workers (several of which I gave). Someone will bring me a flea market ,chinese , mall ninja special with a cutting edge no sharper than the spine and ask if I can sharpen it. That is when (after making sure there are no sentimental attachments) I toss theirs in the garbage and get them steered in the right direction with a new slippie.

I've just recently given away my favorite pocketknife, a large carbon steel Boker stockman, I picked up when I visited their factory.

We were working in the woods, pulling logs out of the woods and cutting 'em up for firewood. I carried my Ka-Bar little finn and my beloved stockman. The guy I was working with, didnt have any knife, so I gave him my stockman to keep.

I got one cent in return, Which really surprised me, Ive only heard about that in this forum.
Now Im looking for a new large carbon steel stockman to carry every day.

Peter

It has become my new way to shop. Friends and relatives alike. Knives make great presents and help spread the word of what exceptional quality can mean in a knife to those unaware.
My latest acquisition is several Hen & Rooster .300 Savage Canoes that are numbered from Russell's. May even keep one for myself. ;)
