Roman style Gladius. I would LOVE a well made and accurately replicated gladius.

Closest thing is a Dukti sword or a Manjushree sword. Do a search and drool over the pictures. Old DOTD thread will have some good pictures.

I don't want close... ;)

Sorry to disappoint, but the kamis have very, very, very, very rarely come within 95% of the desired end product on non-khuk projects. Check out the archives regarding the Cherokee Rose, AK bowie (specifically the "Stubby Bowie" where the kamis were instructed to lengthen the blade and leave the handle as-is..but instead lengthened the handle and not the blade), and some of the other projects. But you never know. I would contact Yangdu directly.

The Manjushreee is probably going to be the closest thing to the gladius that HI offers. It would probably be a fun project to mod the handle and guard to your exact liking:thumbup: The Manjushree as is....fantastic sword:thumbup:

close is about as good as you'll get here, but that's just a part of the HI experience.

That's fine... I would buy a faithful reproduction as I'm sure many people would... I won't buy close. I understand if it is not worth their while, won't knock em for that. I just won't spend money on something that isn't what I want.

I don't think it would take much effort to modify one of the current designs somebody linked to put a different handle on it to make it more Roman gladiusesque. I would rather give my money to HI to help the kamis and their families in Nepal, but if I have to give it to a nameless and faceless corporation that makes what I want... ehhhh, ok. :(

This is close, but the handle is all wrong... make the handle more in keeping with a Roman gladius and I would buy that!

HI could make the blades and have someone else make the handles.

I'm not sure there is a need... rather than use wood, use horn and white metal fittings. I'm guessing these talented master craftsmen could do it, but that would be ab acceptable solution to me. Have the quality of an HI blade and a realistic handle would be cool. I really would like to have an HI creation, it need not be 100% faithful to the original, but it should be 95%. The blade they have pretty much down, its a great start!

JMO but the kamis would probably 'overbuild' a gladius.

The gladius should be very light and quick. It was primarily used for stabbing.

On the other hand, I'd like to see the kamis make a yataghan. The 'movie model' and Uddha sword both have yataghan qualities, but not quite.

One of the things that keep me buying HI prodicts is the kami's interpretation of a design. True, it may not be 100% accurate but that gives it more character to me.

On a side note, I am having TinkerSwords (Mike Tinker Pearce) build me a "New Centurion Gladius" based upon his modern gladius design. Working and dress sword that is not historically accurate but a new age effort based upon an old design.

I have already sent this order to the shop mangaer and Kamis.
Thank you for the great idea.

I look forward to seeing what they come up with! Let me know if you need me to demo a prototype and review it. :D

Guess I know what I'll be saving for. . .

Nice! Another vote for the gladius.

Which kami is known best for making light blades? The gladius should be a light and nimble thrusting weapon. I know there is a noticeable difference between my Kumar and Bura WWIIs. Kumar's is definitely lighter feeling and more elegant. Bura's seems to be much more substantial. For this reason I would think Kumar would have the edge (no pun intended), but I believe I read he no longer makes Khuks for HI or is on hiatus. So what say you, who would make the best gladius in your opinions?

Also, for the handle, what do you guys think? Wood or horn or bone? I personally prefer white metal over yellow. But not a deal breaker for me in the least.
