Yangdu's deals for 11/5-- Thihar special and usual bargains

What in particular makes it your favorite Danny? It was appearance that drew me to it.Well, that and I was FINALLY early enough to have my pick!

the gelbu special 21" FEELS like the perfect combat short blade to me.
It is also heavy and strong enough to chop wood like the other more utilitarian blades.
I am a dedicated gelbu man.
The shape, the feel, the angle, its all perfect.

Aardvark,
I looked at post. Wasn't what I meant to say. I sounded like a whiny little wimp. :barf: Sorry and I rescind the comment (hence the edit).

Don't you hate it when you try to say something on post and it sounds way different after you hit the button?

That Kat does look very tempting. Of course, I think I would have to take it apart and modify it some. Say some JB weld or 2-Ton epoxy instead of Laha. Convex edge.

Then I would beat the crap out of it and see if it survived. If so, I would be in love. If not... well... I would learn from my mistakes and attempt to make something of my new knives.

P.S. I beat the crap out of the Kat I have now, and still love her.

the gelbu has a very wide fuller that runs the length of the blade.
The sirupati is without fullers.

Both are nice, but I LOVE fullers. Especially the wide ones.

I have a 17oz 18" Gelbu Special that is among my favorite khukuris. It is on the light side so I keep my eye open for a bit heavier one.

I had tried several Sirupatis (12", 15", 20") and they leave me cold, so I've given most of them away. I have no explanation really, save perhaps the GS are typically straighter than the Sirupati.

I agree with mPisi. I have a 19.5 ounce 18 inch Gelbu Special and at the moment it is my favourite khukuri. It seems to have the right balance of looks, length and weight. As much as I like my sirupaties and chainpuries (I have a couple of each and they are great khukuries), they don't appeal to me as much as this Gelbu.

It sounds like I made an excellent choice with the Gelbu. I can't wait for it to arrive! The trees in my yard had best beware.
