Yari - Japanese style spear.

There are a lot of different kinds of yari, including some very complex ones. I remember seeing a yumonji where the side blades were "L" shaped, and the angle of the two "L"'s had points. Crazy stuff.

Edit: Those are apparently called chidori jumonji.

Thanks. A quick search of chidori jumonji brought up this one from about 1655... Stunning achievement by smith and polisher.

And it can be yours for only $12,500. Actually, that seems very reasonable.

Jeez, every time I open one of your threads I end up just sitting, grinning and shaking my head. What a journey!

Beautiful, evocative work. Would love to heft that one.

Oh my goodness! That is amazing, and I haven't a clue how you'd even begin to make it, especially where the bevels on the main blade meet with the bevels on the lugs.

That's awesome Stuart. You've outdone yourself yet again.

Thanks for sharing that. Hard to fathom the degree of technical skill that went into creating that.

It's a rather frightening object to hold. With the almost 14" of sharp blade on the end... not much would stop that from penetrating.

Don't be so coy. I know you love creating these lovely, and scary, pieces of steel.

Thanks!!!

That yari is something of a wonder.
I've been coming across things lately that seem modern but are quite old. This yari for instance and I recently went to a concert of John Dowland's music that for 450 years old had some very modern sounding elements.
I guess the wheel goes 'round.

Since there seem to be a number of people interested in yari, thought I would share this.

Guy selling a signed, papered yari for $650 + s/h.

Interesting for it's size.
