Yay or Nay? Eldris

Agreed that the Eldris is too fat in the handle to work well for me as a neck knife. I prefer the Mora Original Classic No.1 (the laminated one), or my small Marttiini with a wood handle and a bird’s head pommel. The name is something like the Lynx Lumberjack, although I am sure that’s not it. Both knives are light and slim.

I tried to like the Eldris, but it's just too stubby for my preference. If the blade were an inch longer, it would suit me perfectly. That's just my opinion, from an objective view, I can't find any fault in it.

I have two (a black and a green) ... and never thought to myself, "Hey, I better grab my Eldris." ... but it could happen I guess, and I have them.
I have many fixed blade knives including other Moraknivs and bought the two Eldris ones basically just to add to my collection.
Morakniv accessories such as the belt loop also will fit the Eldris. So, it's not just a neck knife. Can be worn on belt of slipped into pocket.

Guess my point is that for me, the Eldris was an after thought. I already had neck knives, belt knives and pocket knives ... but not an Eldris.

The Eldris next to a No. 1.

If I’m not mistaken, @knarfeng has spent a good deal of time carrying one.
Exactly what I thought when I saw the thread title.

I think the Eldris is sort of polarizing. For the money I'd opt for the Kansbol. The Eldris has a really hand filling handle which feels great but is kinda bulky for a neck knife. I'd probably go for the Enzo as mentioned earlier, or the Condor mini-bushlore.

Im gonna have to vote nay. They are stubby and fat, with a tiny blade and a weird grind and ugly as well. Just not for me.

I can't remember why I thought I wanted one when they came out. Possibly that it would maximize control for a cold, wet old arthritic, and therefore be a good survival tool. Anyway, I say nay now, even though I think the price has come down. Possibly thinking it's a pretty tiny knife in a pretty bulky package.

That's why I never bought one.

This Tops MTP is way more expensive and I'd expect that to be a deal breaker for many people, but it's another option for anyone wanting a small Puukko style knife and I really like it.

Something more traditional with proportionally smaller dimensions like this is probably a better much more practical knife.

This happens to be a very affordable Townsends " patch knife " kit somebody sent me for Christmas, but I'm sure there are other options out there.

It seems that most people buying the eldris intend to carve and such with it, or at least put a bit of force behind it in use.

I'm not doing anything I don't with my small pocket knives, I suppose I just want my small knives to actually be generally small so they carry well and don't look odd.

For a neck knife? I thought the number 1 is a bit large for that?
It's a matter of perspective I suppose, but a bigger knife can carry smaller if it's slimmer and a smaller knife like the eldris could carry bigger if it's fat and chunky.

The Mora Eldris is a great knife for about 25 bucks, 40 with a nice ferro rod. Just as a reference, that lovely TOPS mini-T sells for around 80 dollars and is not stainless steel.

The Eldris is inexpensive, ridiculously durable, basically rustproof, comfy handle, lightweight.........??? A good child’s knife, good in the kitchen, carves well......!

There are much nicer knives in this category, but I don’t think they are much if any better.
