Yay or Nay? Eldris

The Eldris is inexpensive, ridiculously durable, basically rustproof, comfy handle, lightweight.........??? A good child’s knife, good in the kitchen, carves well......!

I understand you like the Eldris, but that's too much. In what way is the Eldris good in the kitchen? You might be able to make do with one, but that's a far cry from good. There is not a single kitchen knife that I would trade for the Eldris. Not chef, not paring, not cleaver...nothing.

You should try it as a fruit and veggie knife- it’s great! Think strawberries and brussel sprouts, not watermelon and kale.

I admit, I am a Mora fan. I may do a one knife challenge with the Eldris.........

I have. My daughter has one. I'll keep my paring knife, thank you very much.

If you insist on inexpensive, I'll go with my Pallares Solsona utility knife. It's even cheaper than the Eldris.

The Eldris is a hard no for me, too much handle, too little blade. A friend of mine has one and I checked it out, it comes wicked sharp, but I can't see any need for such a knife for my uses.

not stainless steel.
That's one of the good things about the MTP, and being SS is just another thing I dislike about the mora eldris.

these are two very different knives though, the tops is more or less just a small woodcraft inspired EDC knife.
The eldris can probably do everything else better except carry small like a neck knife generally should.

I bought one, but ended up selling it as the curved blade was too short/curvy for my tastes, but, that is JUST my tastes and I have been known to get a knife in and less than an hour later, have it up for sale because something caused me to not want to keep it as much as I 'thought' I would like it.

Expectations are funny like that ;)

I've been thinking about it, but I don't need a knife to be stealthy with me, and I don't think it would help me with my stealthiness. The way people look at me when I do my ninja yoko ashi, I'm not sure that even my ninja yoko ashi makes me completely invisible.
Could be ... However, orange would clash/stand out like a pinkietoe that just located the coffee table leg in dark and at full speed,/fresh missed nail hammer whacked thumb against my shirts. Darker greens/browns ... maybe maroons an Black not so much.

No one has questioned me about this View attachment 1712214
Since I started wearing it 24/7 (except when in the shower) on November 05, 2021.
(Maybe they don't realize it a sheath knife?)

[getting off topic]
Could be. Or nobody's looking? I wore a garish belt-buckle to church Sunday that I've never dared to wear, and nobody noticed.
It's kind of freeing, to put a positive spin on it.
[veering toward topic]
This is close enough to an Eldris for me:

It's orange. Light is funny stuff.

You’re wearing a neck knife to bed?
Ynot?
I sleep alone (have for many years. A side effect of being old/ancient, poor, and EWWwwgly.)
It doesn't bother me. Neither do the two or three in my pocket, my wallet, and the 110 or two blade slipjoint folding hunter at the 03:00/15:00 position on my belt.
I'm a retired OTR truck driver. I got used to sleeping in my clothes. Old habits are difficult to break. I had little to zero desire to have to make an emergency exit from the truck (example: a neighboring truck decided to catch fire and burn to the ground while performing a Regen, or their APU caught fire) wearing my birthday suit ... especially in the winter while in Northern New England, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota ...
Only thing worse would be the truckstop's fire alarm goes off while you're in the shower, having just applied the shampoo.
(At least three TA truckstops I had frequented in different states, had an electrical short, or the restaurant kitchen caught fire, resulting in the facility burning to the ground, shortly after I retired. I hear TA has closed all their restaurants, replacing them with one or more fast food establishments.)

That sounds terribly uncomfortable. lol

I prefer the rounded spine on the "light duty" version of the Eldris. I have no need for the sharp spine and it becomes uncomfortable to use. The only other difference that I can tell is the blade grind and finish. Otherwise they are the same shape/size/quality.

Perhaps another option would be a victorinox paring knife in a home made neck sheath? I'm yet to pull the trigger on one, but I do carry an SAK daily. If they make their kitchen knives with the same steel as their folders I think it could be a real winner...

You could just get this one for it and clip it to your shirt pocket, I didn't actually realize it had a sewn in clip when I ordered it.

The sheath is more than the knife in most cases, but still inexpensive.
