I Have been looking at a spyderco Assist, this seems like a really cool rescue tool (Though an 02 Key in the handle would be a good added feature) I find it odd though that a tool so obviously designed for Emergency Services wouldnt come in Hi Visibility colors, such as yellow or orange which are available on both the Rescue and Salt models.

Are they available and I am just missing them ?

We are looking to get a new water rescue knife, for our team (our last issue was a schrade river rat) Does anyone have any strong feelings for or against a folder such as a spyderco Rescue, Salt, or Assist.

I cant recommend the assist enough I keep on in the car, one in my first aid kit, and one attached to my pfd. It is really an awesome rescue knife. Cuts through anything you put in front of it. The glass breaker works. you really cant beat this knife for rescue use.

How do you attach the Assist to your PFD, Do you use the clip?

I have had good luck attaching Spydercos to turnout gear, using snap links either through a lanyard hole, Or by removing the pocket clip and using that hole on some models. I am thinking this might be more secure than the clip For PFD carry.

Spydercos have for years been my first choice For EMS/Rescue purposes.

Hi Rescue guy,

We made a prototype, just never made production. I imagine if the demand is there we could make some.

Gail is also an EMT, so the rescue guys get a lot of attention.

I say go for it. I think it would help more than hurt sales. My friend is EMT and has a black one, and hes asked the same question, "why isn't there a yellow one?". I would only use the black, but Im sure there is enough interest for a bright color.

I carry an Assist in my truck at all times. I've come across some accidents in the past where I could have used this bad boy. Awesome tool!

Thanks For your responses everybody. I am Going to Order One ASAP (and at least one other pattern either a Salt or Di'Allaria)

Sal Glesser : Im sorry for my inorance but I dont Know who Gail is ,I am pretty new to this forum, But not to spyderco, My first one was over 15 years ago a Standard I believe (stolen 10 years ago) this has pretty much been my brand since.

Its obvious that sombody at Spydeco has some kind of emergency services experience.

I also keep one in my truck, clipped to the back of the sun visor so it's always there. This is truly an awesome tool. Wish it was available in hi-vis also. Sal, you build it and I'm buying.

Chris:) :) :)

Hi EMS Rescue guy,

My apologies. My wife, Gail, is a "rescue" junky, she worked EMT, rode the fire trucks and put in her time at the ER. She's involved in the company and its products, so the "Rescue" groups and soldiers (she handles the Spyderco OIF/OEF project) get a lot of attention.

I am a working EMT, Wilderness EMT and SAR instructor and I have and use the Assist I with the carbide tip and think the world of it.

Its carried on my EMT bag which goes on all calls. Oh yeah, its black. :D

FWIW,

I have it attached to my pfd in a custom kydex sheath that holds it closed. It attaches to my pfd with a tek-lok

That sounds like a real Solid system worth looking into

Was that from On Scene Tactical or another Maker ?

:D Thanks again SAL Glesser, Im learning the names and initials, Ill get it all right sooner or later :)

Hi Sal,

I'd be another customer for a hi-viz (pref. orange) Assist. And, as already mentioned in another thread, an ORANGE 79 mm Salt Rescue. 8-).

I'd like to see a color like yellow offered across the spectrum of all Spyderco models- it is so much easier to find in the woods--. I just bought a Salt 1 primarily for the yellow handle.

Mike sastre o River City Sheaths makes great stuff and has experience in what makes a good river sheath.

I'd be on board for a yellow or orange Assist as well. Right now, I'm looking at picking up an Atlantic Salt for car emergency kit duty, but I would really love the extra features the Assist offers.

i have heard good things about the Assist. Right now, I depend on my blue 93mm Rescue partly because it is easy to see. I also like my yellow Pac Salt for the same reason. I would buy a orange or yellow Assist if they made it. In fact, I was going to buy an Assist but now I am waiting to see if they make it in orange or yellow. I would prefer orange.

Just make it Sal and I and a lot of others will buy the Assist that haven't yet. Right now, it is just another black knife. The brite colors kind of let people know that it is an emergency tool.

I think you should send EmsRescueGuy the first one as a thank you for bringing this idea up. Great idea that will only help sell the Assist. I can see it replacing the Rescue with many people and in many situations. I want one for the car so I would get one even though I like the Rescue.

While high-viz colors are being discussed, I have wondered about a whole different option. I am interested to know if it is possible to create FRN scales (or some other material) that can be infused with that stuff that is luminescent, the substance used on the numerals of watches or found in the toy stars made for kids rooms. If not the handle, maybe at least a portion of it, like maybe a Spyder inlay. I bring this up because there have been times where in night-time operations locating my knife's location in the dark would have been invaluable.
