YES/NO fixed blade

"Too much" is a relative term. I'm sure you'll get members from more rural areas who'll say it's perfectly fine. Others from, say, New York City, would obviously disagree. If your daily activities necessitate that sort of knife, then you should carry one. For me, it would be extremely excessive.

It all depends on where you live (laws) as well as whether or not you need a knife of that size. With a bit more info you can get alot more help

+1 for both of these. In my state, blades over 4" can not be concealed and have to be carried in plain site. My fav is a 5" blade. When I'm out hiking or in more rural areas, I carry my 5" blade openly since it's not a problem sheeple wise. In more sheeple areas, I have a 2.5" blade neck knife that I carry in my pocket.

Depend how you want to carry it also.

I plan to get a 3" fixed to EDC. Maybe a plan B or something from HI. There are a few recent threads on small fixed blades.

Well, I'd say it depends on what you're wanting to use the knife for. Is it too much blade? No way. Is it comfortable to carry every day? That's wholly up to you. Considering whether you're carrying it concealed or open, as concealed may be harder to carry comfortably. My ideal, all-purpose EDC knife is 4.5" blade with a comfy, 4.5" handle. I prefer to (legally) carry my EDC concealed and, for me, a 9" OAL knife is a little too large to comfortably conceal.

I'd say, if you have the money to experiment, give it a try and see how it works out. If you don't have the bux to play with, try out a whole lot at a local store before making a decision.

I edc my 210 tk. I'll have to post a pic when I figure it out. Anyways I do not feel this knife at all and its totally concealed, but ready it a split second. I like it just wish it was a bit longer in the handle. O yeah I also carry two folders, and a sak (midnight manager). Anyways I carry the 210 on my belt. It is a neck knife but I put it on my belt, by wrapping the cord around the sheath sideways on my belt. Its sits to the left side of my right hip bone. My shirt is never tucked so with the knife sideways it is never seen untill I need it. (Hi, my name is Randy Johnson and I'm a knife knut)

I carry a blackhawk kalista, a spyderco ronin, or a rat-3 daily I dont feel a need to go any larger for edc but if its suits your needs and your on solid legal ground then go ahead.

I EDC a fixed blade, an AG Russell Hunters Scalpel. It's 4-3/4" long in it's sheath and I barely notice it, so I don't think a 5" knife length will present a hardship.

But you have to consider the 'bulk' (thickness and width) and weight of the knife as well. The Hunters Scalpel handle is about a half-inch wide and a quarter-inch thick. The knife itself only weighs 0.8 ounces.

ok their is no real blade length laws over here.

Ok so what about a 4 inch blade then. hows that?

I had SOG Field Pup as EDC for some time, 4" blade. It's doable, nobody ever noticed I had it (on belt, under shirt), BUT folder do all things (concerning EDC) better - you don't need a sheath , is easier to carry (in a pocket) and it's something you can play with  :D
I've never needed (additional) toughness of fixed blade.
So it's folder for me - check e.g. Spyderco Military - comfortable to carry, yet packs reasonable blade

Not to mention you can carry something monstrous like BM Skirmish and still it takes about as much space as very very small (<2.5") fixed blade.

If you are really determined to carry FB, search for Spyderco Street Beat.

One hand, gross motor skills only for me please. The TOP's Wolfpup is on my belt at this moment.

Other factors , how do you dress , what do you do ? Height and body type also factor in , a tall long waisted guy might be ok , a short guy might get poked a lot .Type and quality of sheath is another determining factor .

Everytime I see a thread about fixed blades I like to chime and mention about my Chris Reeve Shadow III (4 in. blade). It is small enough to EDC but has the size to do relatively all my cutting/SD needs. The sheath looks pretty unique and the handle of the Shadow III looks like a tool (round and knurled) than a knife handle.

I edc a cold steel vaquaro grande. 6" blade. I don't even no it's there. I have to reach down to make sure she is still with me. Granted that it weighs less than the knife your probably going to edc and rides in the pocket, so take that with a grain of salt. I may be different than most people but a lot of times I have to reach down and feel for my Glock 17 also. I'm only 5'11 165 lbs, so I'm not a huge guy. Good luck hope you find a good fit.
