"Yet Another" Designer Thread

I didn't mean it in a bad way. Actually cool that you came up with a similar design as one of the two top Russian knife makers.

That being said, it shows that it's hard to come up with something new and distinguished in this field .... I suggest to study people who started like you and who have been successful in the past, and why they were, in addition to luck. Take Lorien Lorien for example. I'm a fan of his CPK designs. They turn out to be _very_ practical and ergonomic but still have a very unique "signature". That combined with CPK's innovation made the success, IMHO.

If you are a coffee drinker, let me give you another example: the Alessi Espresso maker:

This one actually made it into the MOMA, I believe due to the combination of functionality, beautiful, simple and yet original design.

Just my 2 cents.

Roland.
Of course, I didn't take it as such either. I appreciate you pointing it out. I most defintely have to agree about Lorien Lorien . He's done a fantastic job with CPK and he very much has a distinct spin on an incredibly ergonomic design. My DEK1 happens to be the best feeling fixed blade I've ever held to date actually. I've followed many designers over the years and always loved how they were able to come up with the things they do.

This isn't at all to sound cocky or arrogant, but I've alwasy been a fan of design in general, in all aspects of life, so I am fairly confident in my ability to come up with very visually appealing things that also function how they should, and the challenge of it even brings me joy.

Lorien Lorien , if you ever have the time as well maybe we could talk privately some time. (Just in general about a few topics, this one included simply because I appreciate and respect what you've done for yourself).

At Mass Science Forge, here's how we design our blades:

That's right, we just draw all over the billet with a marker and then shape the metal to match. From there, the prototype is passed on to artisans at one of our worldwide partnerships where the model is recreated to our rigorous standards, carefully sealed in blister packs by hand, then shipped all over the globe and into the hands of eager blade users!
