YODEL-AY-EE-OOOO ... Got Swiss? Post 'em

Here is one of mine. I always have at least one in my bag and I probably have 10 or so different species left. Gave most away as gifts. There was a place that had hundreds of them in a bin....3 bucks each.

Several of my more recent ones (all three in this pic acquired through the Exchange forum here):

My first Alox - the Electrician:

The Cadet I carry every day, along with one of its occasional companions:

Over the years i have owned many SAKs but have lost, traded or sold most of them although the little buggers have a way of sneaking up on you, take my current hoard, the Swiss Champ was a birthday gift, the Climber i bought because i like the colour, the Huntsman i do not know what that is doing, next the Cadet and finally the little guy i think it is a Classic SD. I bought the Cadet to carry as an EDC backup although to make it perfect for me i would exchange the main blade for scissors, other than the Cadet the only one i use is the Climber for its scissors.

Here's my current collection of Victorinox, the Electrician and Executive ride side by side in my front right pocket, the rest are in my kit bag, for what ever may happen during the day.

Ha, I was scrolling through to look at the pics and saw the whipped lanyards. I immediately thought, "That looks like Gary Graley". Sure enough I scrolled up and it was you.

I also switch out my split rings and use the Tec-P7 on a few of mine. I have paracord lanyards too but I'm not sure I can manage to whip them as elegantly as you have. That sure adds another level of form and function. Nice work Gary.

Here's one of mine I'm very fond of and use often.

Hey Rich, the lanyards are for keeping the knife in the boat.

From early spring to late fall, I spend a good deal of time on small boats. Canoes, small sailboats, fishing/crabing boat. Potomac river, Patuxent river, Chesapeake Bay, Choptank river. I had one knife go overboard, I don't intend to loose any more to Davy Jones' locker. Also, the lanyard makes it easy if you're working on something and need both hands quick, and you have the lanyard over your wrist, if need be, you can just let go of the knife and it's not going anywhere, just dangles from your wrist until you can deal with it.

The Fenix E01 is a great lithe light and I love it. Great run time, adequate lumens for real world seeing whats around you in low light or no light conditions. It won't sear the retna's out of a tree's coon a hundred feet up a old oak tree, but has enough to see your way out of a dark METRO tunnel in an emergency. Or find your way to the circuit breaker panel in a blackout.

The red Bison capsule is where I carry aspirin for both arthritis pain, and in case of a vapor lock. Our friend Harry felt chest pain and nausea and numbness in his left arm. His wife gave him two aspirin and called 911. When the EMT's go there, he was in the middle of a major heart attack. The EMT's and the cardiac doc all said the aspirin saved his life.

So I carry a classic, flashlight, and aspirin on my keyring so I can't leave home without any of them.

Great reasons for the lanyard. I use a cane and don't go places like that and seldom (never :-) stand on my head. You are right the Fenix E01 is a great light. Love the pill case. I carry mine in a zippy in my pocket, but would love to find one like yours. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rich

I just ordered one from Amazon.

Thanks, if I can't find one locally at my pharmacy or other stores, I'll give Amazon a try.

Google Bison Designs, and look up their capsules. The large is mine. :thumb up:

They come in different sizes and shapes.

Pioneer, Electrician, Vic Soldier, and a Wenger Soldier. I have the new model (2010) Vic Soldier and a Hunter but don't have a picture of those two.

Thanks, the whipping part is easy, ask my dad :( but seriously it's one of the very easiest ways to bind those two together. Or end a thicker rope so it doesn't fray as that was how I was taught aboard ship and recently figured it would also work for things like this.

Just take some fairly heavy thread, I picked this up at a Tandy store, I thought it looked thinner than my regular sewing thread but I wasn't sure, got home and yep, way way too thin a thread for my sewing. So I was bummed that I had that big roll of thread I thought I'd never use, until now :)

Just cut a long length of it, make a loop with the tail extending out so you have it to pull later on. The loop end will be towards the knife/item, then just take the really long end and wrap it around the two strands, don't pull it tight until you have wrapped it a couple times around, THEN pull that thread VERY tight and keep the wrap pulled down close to each other, when you get to the end, slip the thread through the loop, and now pull on the other end, it'll start pulling that loop smaller and smaller until it goes under the tightly wound thread, once the loop is under there, you can trim off the thread that is exposed and then pull a little more, NOT too hard, just so that the loose end sticking out disappears beneath the wrap. Then carefully trim off the other end that you were pulling the loop with and you're all set.

Easy peazy :)

I wouldnt buy a SAK without the lanyard ring now .
For me they are an essential part of the knife .
I have never done extended cutting sessions with any of my SAK's to the point where the ring has caused discomfort or injury to my hand .
If I was doing that much cutting then a SAK wouldn't be what I would be using anyway .
I actually curse Victorinox at times because they don't offer the lanyard ring on all of their models .
But it doesn't really matter to much , the Farmer has a lanyard ring , and that's the only SAK that gets carried by me now .

Wenger Standard Issue, bail removed because I'm one of those guys who always closes the knife onto the bail.

I've gone through a number of SAKs over the decades: lost 'em, had 'em stolen, given 'em away, abused 'em 'til they were too ugly to keep. But I respect the SAK more now. I take better care of my no-longer-made Wenger. I won't let it out of my sight now.

Great SAKs guys. I only have two Alox Cadets. A Silver and green. I am also waiting on a custom Pioneer by SAK Modder. I think it might be here next week. Now, what I would really like to have is a blue and a copper Alox Cadet or Solo. Man, those just look so cool.

Like the Wenger. I debated on the Standard or Vic Cadet and chose the Cadet simply for the nail file.

NICE Solo !!!

Some serious Alox there fellas.

I'm guessing not many people have these Wenger Sports models. Some weren't even listed at SAK Wiki until I sent them some pics and box scans:
