Man... I finally saw a custom Yojimbo (Snody custom)...

Does Spyderco still have plans to produce a production version of it?

Thanks!

Mike Snody will be making custom Folding Ronins (Yojimbo). Spyderco is planning on producting the design. We worked with Mike Janich on the early models. Michael Janich has much thought into this design and it becomes apparent as one studies the design.

Final construction will more than likely be a nested compression lock similar to the Lil' Temperance.

Final decisions on handle material / color & steel selection is up to Mike Janich.

Dam, just when you think you are making inroads into your knife collection, up pops another must-have Spyderco.

Thanks Mr Janich & Mr Glesser :)

Any idea when these will be in production Sal? I got to play with the custom version the other night and it is awesome! I think it will make a nice collaboration for Spyderco. My hat is off to Mike Snody, Michael Janich, and Sal Glesser :) Keep up the great work guys!

I'm with you fellas!

That is such excellent news, it really brings me a great amount of joy!

This will definitely be a much anticipated project, especially for all of us Snody enthusiasts.

Yeehaa!!

Is it too early to start the list for a pass around? :)

Going to be very nice to have this Spyderco in my collection.

The Yojimbo is sill in the concept phase, and there isn't even a prototype yet. Considering the number of other projects in development, Yojimbo sounds like a 2004 model to me.

To all Ronin/Yojimbo fans:

I received Mike Snody's first Yojimbo/Folding Ronin and it is AWESOME! He hollow ground the blade and added a swedge (unsharpened false edge) for added style. The 3-1/4-inch blade is ground from D2 and sharpened with a chisel edge.

The handle is 4-3/4 inches long and made of carbon fiber scales mounted to titanium liners about 0.080-inch thick. The lock is a very stout split liner lock and is very secure.

Based on my initial impressions and a long talk with Mike Snody, he's going to make some subtle changes to further improve the design as a custom piece and hopes to begin offering custom models in the near future. He is not taking orders for the Yojimbo and will be selling them through one of the purveyors he uses and, perhaps, through me. The exact materials for the custom models will probably vary slightly because, well, they're custom models.

Mike has also kindly agreed to work with Spyderco to do the prototypes for a production Yojimbo. This will most likely be a compression lock design, made in the U.S., ideally set up for tip-up carry (reversible for left and right sides), with (I hope) denim-colored G-10 handles.

Once again, I'd like to thank Mike Snody for all he's done to bring this design to life. I'll keep everyone posted as the story continues.

Stay safe,

Looks like it's gonna be a great little knife ('cept for the chisel edge...). Denim scales and the compression lock sound like great choices. If this thing's anywhere near affordable there's a decent chance I'll end up owning one.

One li'l question, though: how do you hold the thing? Is the choil for your middle finger?

[looking again at the photo] Damn, that's a pretty knife :D
